Etterselt
Nestled between the steep walls of the Fjelles Gûl and the pristine waters of the alpine Ilverness Lake, Etterselt is one of the most strikingly beautiful cities in the world of Hyrtia. Half-timbered buildings, with gleaming white plaster and bright, red tiled roofs give the city center its distinct and famous charm.
Anglers who have the means come from far and wide to fish the frigid waters of Ilverness Lake and the Etlow River, where their nets are filled with trout, perch, mountain whitefish, pike, and a variety of freshwater crabs and mollusks. The real treasure of this alpine gem, however, is the Blind Etlow Salmon, which journeys to the lake in winter. Unlike their surface dwelling cousins, the Blind Etlow Salmon begins its journey deep in the underdark, in subterranean seas. The adults make their way through unknown paths into the unfathomable depths of the lake where they spawn their young before rising nearer to the surface.
If you have the coin for it, you may sample the Blind Etlow Salmon at one of Etterselt's finer Inns. Locals describe the flavor as light and slightly mineral, with a pleasant layer of fat which melts in the mouth. When consumed raw, the flesh flakes and shatters almost ice-like in the mouth. When cooked, it becomes exceedingly soft, near melting.
If shopping is more your speed, the broad and bustling Harpdale Street is where you will find the best of what Etterselt has to offer: from the necessities like lodging and provisions to the finer things such as art, magical trinkets, and the finest in alpine fashion. No trip to Etterselt is complete without a piece of the city's stylish and distinctive knitwear to show off back home.
If you are an outdoorsman, you may enjoy hunting the forests of the nearby Dreowood or simply ambling through the lush emerald fields surrounding the city. The sheep grazing the hillsides have inspired many a painter!
If industry is your interest, you will enjoy touring the copper mining operations of the Glimmerhorn Company in the Eastern district. You will want to hire a reputable tour guide, however, as the surrounding neighborhoods can be a bit on the rough side.
If you ever find yourself in need of assistance, simply find a member of the Circle of the Golden Thread, who will eagerly offer their aid. You will recognize them by the ring of twined golden yarn worn on their chest.
We hope you enjoy your stay!
