Emperor

A title of the mightiest rulers, the Phurzic word for emperor is seen as a title that surpasses even that of kings or Decarchs as sheer majestic power. However, not all of the places the word is used for think of their sovereign in the same way.   The word derives from an Olmese term for their rulers, known as ‘empur in their tongue, translating as ‘One of Above’. In Olm, the empur was seen as a figure of divine authority, of the bloodline of the gods themselves, and therefore was beyond the authority of kings both politically and religiously. Their orders were not to be questioned, and they held absolute unrestricted power over their nation. Perhaps this centralisation of power around the needs of one individual is what spelt doom does the largest nation in all of the Isles’ history, or at least that is what the Phurzic historians would say. The same title is also given to the rulers of the God-kingdom of Xiphos, even if the small and cold island is scarcely comparable to even one of the Dominion’s governates, let alone an empire proper.   Another ruler typically given the title of emperor are the rulers of Vulgar, though ‘king of kings’ would be a more accurate translation from the High Vulgar dialect. Not religious in significance, the Vulgar emperors are seen more as secular authorities and as the representative of Volgigrod’s power, providing unity to their lands as a guardian.   Elsewhere still, in the lands of the Silver Sun, their emperor is again seen as a figure of divine contact, but in a reduced sense as the high priest of their faith, not as a god in and of himself. The divine right, however is seen as the justification for his rule over the vast lands, with the gods clearly having favoured the silver bloodline over the array of petty kingdoms that ruled western Porpuda before the Fires erupted.

In Vulgar and Vongchou, the title is formally recognised for heads of state. The Xiphos state also uses it for their ruler, even if he hardly deserves the title.
