Tideriders, the people of Undertow

The city of Undertow is odd and well traveled with a history that lines the streets like weathering on a stone. Her people are just as colorful.
Undertow's unique atmosphere, and bustling port lends to a mishmash of influences the locals are fiercely protective of. In fact Tideriders, as they are called are known for shrewdness as well as loyalty named for their connection to the water and their head on attitude. When a Tiderider joins your group you can be sure that they will be dedicated to their goals.

Common values

When a foreigner returns from time in a Tiderider community the first thing that will stick out to them is their unity. There is an unheard of amount of mixing between classes with immigrants being welcomed and integrated relatively smoothly into the cities rhythms. However it is considered in bad form to support beggars and the homeless with anything but a job offer due to the near impossibility of expansion. If a person has money to spare it is often used to offer passage to the nearby town of Longshore that has ample room for expansion.

Another value of note is the common usage of steam contraptions and Electromagitech that is still stigmatized to the point of taboo in most places gives a welcoming air to scholars interested in such things.

Traditions

Every single native can swim, rock climb and help run a ship as far as they are able. The alien mechanisms that hoist the cities main lift and control water level are still not entirely understood, if some unknown usage is triggered one day evacuation must be sudden and efficient.

A festival called "sporting week" is held in the summer annually to celebrate and hone everyone's, but most importantly the youth's, athletic ability. This festival also serves to promote local business through festival carts, stands, and discounts.

Common languages

The main language spoken is the national language Menervin, closely followed by Riba'sic and Kalanese with those nations having large groups of immigrant families from foreign business. Tideriders have a smaller range of dialect due to its nature as a cities microculture.
