Star Robes

Despite the name, the fabric is, at present, neither singularly a robe nor made of any celestial material. Robes in differing sizes were the first garments produced and the magic in the threads created small sparkle when viewed in the right light. Particular practices of elven magic users made it possible to infuse threads- at first only variants of cotton- with magical energy. This was used by clans that made extensive use of scouts and rangers who needed reserves of magic during long journeys if they ran out of food and water.   Its use expanded into military applications once war with the demons began and afterward, the hybrids who became leaders of the clan brought the fabric forward during the revolt. Both sides made liberal use of it as more and more textiles were able to be infused with magic.   Currently, star robes come in all colors. The dying process is the same as mundane fabric. They are used by both military and civilians. Differing levels of magic contribute to pricing disparities, with high levels and more complexly woven textiles commanding a higher price tag.   For most, owning a small piece is standard as it can be 'recharged' with magic periodically. These pieces are more utilitarian then fashionable. High ranking nobility and military leaders will often wear whole outfits made from star robes to formal occasions to show the amount of magic they can control and as a fashion statement.

History & Usage

Discovery

The infusion of magic into fabric was first discovered by accident. A weaver was speaking to a magic user friend who attempted to show a new spell. This went wrong and the magical energy was siphoned into the fabric. The magic user was able to retrieve it and subsequent experiments between the weaver and sorcerer expanded what would become the art of star robe weaving.    At least, this is the passed down story. The purpose is to keep both sorcerers and weavers from becoming arrogant in their practices and to be open to new possibilities. While most believe there is some truth to the story, the exact details are still debated both among the clan who invented star robes and society at large.

Star robes seem not only very practical, but potentially quite pretty. Do they have unique designs, or do they tend to look on the surface, like any other robe but with an extra sparkle?

They can have unique designs like other textiles. It's the infusion of magic that makes them special.
