Barazingathol

Overview

Barazingathol is a hazardous industrial outpost on Spekivard, sponsored by the Dwarf Lords of Hertenland. The risks are high, but the materials gathered allow the dwarves to manufacture top of the line safety equipment and armor.

Where

The base is located close to one of the poles of Spekivard, the sphere featuring the most hostile environment in the realm of Hvatvetna. Much of the base is built underground for protection from the local wildlife and the harsh seasonal temperatures.

What

Since the original discovery of the gurnalug fiber, the dwarves have made improvements in their process. Workers collect mats of algae from one pool in late summer under heavy protective guard and with elaborate safety equipment. If they do not store the algae securely underground, it will be consumed by other Spekivardian life forms. They dry the algae over fires as the long night falls, then grind it to powder over the High Winter. When the heat of High Summer returns, the workers pour the powdered algae into an acidic lake of emerald green near the outpost. They use huge glass hooks to pull long fibers from the acid, fibers that demonstrate an amazing strength and can be woven into cloth that resists tears and abrasion. The fibers are sent back to Hertenland where they are woven into gurnalug fabric, which is used to make DOSHA standard mining safety equipment and extremely expensive armor.

How

Personnel, minor supplies, and finished product move through a Teleportation Circle between Barazingathol and Hertenland. Major resupply is brought at substantial expense by Rothilimion ships every quarter-year. The Rothilimion council has offered a substantial reduction in expenses if the Dwarf Lords will agree to share the secret of gurnalug manufacture. The Dwarf Lords have so far refused. They have, however, suggest that while gurnalug is not for sale, they might be willing to trade for the secrets of the stellospheric core. Those suggestions have been studiously ignored by the Rothilimion.
