New American Wild Turkey
Some Animals truly got more lucky when the Bombs went off. While some had to get to the future the hard way by either mutating or going through a quick and rather rapid evolution in such a sort amount of time, some of their relatives lived in rather cozy, yet small comfort in “Animal Vaults”, specialized sealed vaults similar to Seed vaults that allowed for the propagation of species to thrive and flourish during nuclear fallout, until the surface finally became safer.
Turkeys, surprisingly were one such species. Wild Turkeys were and once again are, gamebirds found in the North American and Central American landscape. While much of their relatives on the surface either mutated or died off in the short 200 years following the nuking, a small handful of them were kept alive within the animal vaults, hand raised and reared in the hopes that they would be released onto the surface, being used as farm animals for meat and egg production. This turned out to be a surprisingly beneficial outcome, as when finally released onto the surface, the turkeys flourished, and some even went feral, a for once beneficial thing to occur, as they established wild colonies in the Forest and Grasslands throughout the new world.
Roaming from the woods and swamps of the southeast to the hills of the northwest, wild turkeys are known for their keen eyesight and ability to blend in their surroundings. These birds are also wary and watchful, and quite intelligent when compared to their doltish, domesticated cousins. As opportunistic omnivores, they can be found foraging for insects, seeds and grasses. These birds are harmless but quite easily scared by the presence of large animals, vehicles or humans. When killed their feathers can be used for crafting, and their plump meat can be used as a source of food. These bird can also provide some unexpected distraction for many predators, who will often try to attack the bird instead of the player, thus allowing them to plan their next move carefully.
