Lord of The Plague Quest: A Matter of Democracy PT3: Long Live the King.

Quest Objective

Kill the Rat-King

Description and Behavior.

The lord of the Plague, often simply known as the Rat King, is a extremely large variant of the Corpse-Rat. While not much differs him in terms of looks compared to other Corpse-Rat despite size, it can be identified among it’s subordinates by the dark ridge of fur on his back, perhaps a symbol of his self-appointed status in the underground kingdom.

Lord of the Plague Attack Patterns and In-game-Behavior

In addition to all the attacks normal Corpse-rat possess, this Mini boss has some behaviors of his own.
  • Screech
The massive rodent will release a wicked screech at Hunters, which does not require earplugs to block.
  • Tail Swipe
LoTP will swipe its tail at a Hunter, which can knock them back.
  • Body Slam
LoTP will attempt to ram the player with it’s hip, a second variation of this attack is known as Belly Flop where the creature will rear up on it’s back legs and slam down in a effort to squish the player.
  • Triple Chomp
The Rodent will swing its head at a Hunter, pecking 3 times in rapid succession.
  • Headbutt
Similar to its smaller counterparts, LoTP pushes its body forwards, knocking into a Hunter.
  • Filthy Saviors
LoTP will screech for its minions to attack, then attack as well, each biting at a Hunter, knocking them back

Enraged Attacks

  • Acid barf
The boss will emit a large frothy pool of poisonous saliva from his mouth which triggers automatically whenever the boss reaches a low enough health threshold
  • Scramble Rush
The boss will rush violently, biting and scratching at a Hunter, which can knock them back.

Tired and Enrage State

  • Rage State
Starting off its rage mode, the creature will Squeal at an extremely high volume. This squeal deals no damage, but can stun the player. The Creature, like most others, will also begin to visibly huff white steam.
  • Tired State
The creature’s head will be bowed and it will pause for breath often. Salvia will visibly drip from it’s mouth and it’s tail will become droopy. It will become more likely to trip during rush attacks, leaving it’s vulnerable for attack.

Lord of the Plague Drops

The Rat king is now dead and the menace has been successfully repelled. Jazz could not greet you after your victory but has left you a note instead.
The King is Dead and Gone. Sorry I cant be there to join you in your victory. Something has come up. But Congrats you did it!!   Seems like the rest of the rats have all fled after you killed their boss. Now with all them dead and gone, the community is now safe and free to roam the streets without being picked off by Rodents. For your help, the Town Council as well as the community have agreed to pay you c1000 for all your service. In addition the Council has also agreed to pay you for whatever rat you kill in the future. All you have to do is like what you did before. Simply bring their Tails to Tom at the community center. The more you bring, the more money you can make   Thank you again for everything. Couldn’t have done it without you.   PS. The community want’s nothing to do with the Giant Rat you killed. Guess their sick of Rats. So feel free to scavenge whatever parts you want off it and enjoy the spoils of your venture.

Drops

  • Filthy Pelt
The pelt of a King, encrusted with filth. Dead insects line this matted fur, and just the thought of touching it makes one wish to puke.
  • Great Rat Incisor
The true weapon of this beast, they say it houses a plague within that saps the will to live, through sheer revulsion.
  • Rat King Claw
The claw of a king, stout and strong. Each claw is rife with disease, and must be handled with care. Don’t Cut yourself
  • Rat King Tail
The strong tail of a Rat-King. It can be used as is, or worked into lots of different tools, weapons, or other gear. It's rough and scaly to the touch, but strong, maybe you can use it for something?
  • Rat King Skin
The skin of a Rat-King. Its toughness makes it the perfect leather.

Trivia

  • Lord of the Plague are a rare-mini hunt. This is because Corpse-Rat actually do not have leadership within their ranks due to their highly solitary nature. What causes the LoTP to gain such leadership amongst the rats is a unclear. But size most defiantly has something to do with it. In addition, Lord of The Plague do not seem to even “lead” their followers in coordination like other pack leading animals, instead leading through fear and intimidation, suggesting that even though they fill the role of “Leader” they don't do anything for the benefit of the pack, and the only reason they attack after so many corpse-rat are killed is solely because Corpse-Rat bring them food.

  • In the rare instances a Lord of the Plague DOES spawn, they can spawn in different forms.
Black Grey Brown Albino   Note: In the terms of Coat Coloring, nothing changes between them except cosmetics. They still drop the same items and have the same attacks. However in the case of keeping parts for trophies, they will not show up the same; putting up the pelt of a albino rat-king will show it as albino. Putting up Black will show it as Black, and so on and so on. However Albino IS indeed the rarest of all the colors they can produce, so remember that if you want to keep it.
  • Rat king's who spawn at a higher level, may also spawn with a new attack.
Rat Snap Trap is a additional attack, where if not dodged at the right moment, the Rat will snap the player up in his jaw's and bite down, in the event the player can not free themselves they will become afflicted with a Status Effect known as *Rotting Plague* Rotting Plague greatly decreases Health and Stamina regeneration the longer it lasts and can cause hunters to randomly stop in the middle of battle and vomit should any of the bars drop further and as the status continues. Only cure is to use a antidote, or wait it out.
