Cinnamon Sparks
Disclaimer: This recipe hasn't actually been tested in real life, and the laws of Hunig are different than in real life, so this may work in Hunig but not real life.
Cinnamon Sparks is a cake-based dish typically baked in the bowl it's mixed in. While generally used as a sacrifice to the god of fire, Fiamma, many families in the Rocky Desert and Fiamma's Mages eat this dessert on many of Fiamma's holidays. For being the signature dish of one of the most finicky gods, tbtl is surprisingly open to customization.
Stories say that this dessert was originally created by Fiamma when she was still mortal. No one but Fiamma knows whether this dish was an accident or not, but everyone knows how quickly Cinnamon Sparks became Fiamma's favorite. Perhaps what was an accident, however, is the name.
The term ‘Cinnamon Sparks’ didn’t come from any spark of genius, but it instead came from a mistake while Fiamma was trying to teach her original Mage how to bake the dish. The recorded quote from this incident is: “…And then you add cinnamon- Agh! Sparks! Sparks!" It is said that the entire kitchen then spontaneously caught on fire. It seems that even the most powerful gods aren't immune to mistakes, especially when inexperienced...
When made traditionally, Cinnamon Sparks has an autumny taste. While never a part of the recipe, a small amount of pumpkin purée is often added to complete the traditional dish's autumn feel. While it may confuse those who don't primarily worship Fiamma, the dish is generally not made with strawberries, bananas, and other summery fruit. Summer isn't the season of fire, autumn is, for it is the time when the leaves are all alight with the colors of the flames.
There are two main ways to make Cinnamon Sparks: enchanted and non enchanted. Enchanted Cinnamon Sparks is served to Fiamma in rituals, and non enchanted Cinnamon Sparks is eaten by mortals if they so please.
Recipes
Non Enchanted Cinnamon Sparks
To make traditional Cinnamon Sparks, use pumpkin spice cake and dried apple slices or oranges. Omit whipped cream.
Ingredients:
- Any size cake of any flavor without frosting (ensure the cake is able to be crumbled. Cakes such as cheesecake should not be used.)
- Uncooked meringue
- Cinnamon to taste (this also includes no cinnamon or an entire jar of cinnamon. No judgements passed.)
- Optional: Whipped cream
- Optional: Fruits
Recipe
- Preheat oven to 200 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Crumble cake to desired crumb size. Place in a bowl.
- In a separate bowl, gently mix the meringue and cinnamon. Add cake crumbs and gently mix until as evenly distributed as desired.
- Place in oven for an hour and fifteen minutes or until a toothpick comes out coated in marshmallow-like goop.
- Leave in oven for 2-3 hours or overnight to allow meringue to set.
- Serve and enjoy.
Alternatively, non enchanted Cinnamon Sparks can be flame-cooked, but the results are much more difficult to control. Flame-cooked Cinnamon Sparks is said , however, to contain the blessings of Fiamma.
Enchanted Cinnamon Sparks
Enchanted Cinnamon Sparks uses the traditional, autumny recipe.
Ingredients:
- Any size pumpkin spice cake without frosting (A 5 inch round cake 2 inches thick is traditionally used, but size honestly varies, especially by ritual cast. The more spell components, the more cake.)
- Uncooked meringue
- Cinnamon to taste
- Fruits (most commonly dried apples or oranges)
- Components of selected enchantment
Enchantment Components
- Prosperity: Seven runes carved in the bark of a poison fruit tree, seven small shards of charcoal, and seven marigolds
- Health: Three small spikes of dragon's blood (incense, not actual dragon's blood), four poppies, and five vials of fire
- Strength: Three small spikes of dragon's blood (actual dragon's blood, not incense), four poppies, and five vials of fire
- Knowledge/wisdom: Ten dried mint leaves, ten dried basil leaves, twenty dried sage leaves, and two owl feathers (dropped when naturally shed, not plucked or taken from an owl in any way that would harm them. If the owl is harmed in the collection of the feathers, the spell will irreparably remove quite a few of your memories.)
For a full list of spells and their components, speak with Fiamma's current Mage for more details. Chances are, however, that the Mage is the only one baking enchanted Cinnamon Sparks.
- Evenly spread out spell components (preferably on a nonflammable surface) in a circle or similar shape.
- Place bowl in the center of the shape.
- Light spell components on fire using magic.
- Whisper exactly what you want from the spell until all spell components have
- Serve.
Alternatively, enchanted Cinnamon Sparks can be flame-cooked, but the results are much more difficult to control. It is, however, much more common, for the fire is Fiamma's blessing. Any dishes served to Fiamma must use her blessing. They'd be a disgrace to her sacrifices otherwise. Enchanted Cinnamon Sparks that is not cooked by flames is only used for practice enchanting the dish.
Laws of Cinnamon Sparks
While eaten by mortals, there are some exceptions to who is allowed to make and consume Cinnamon Sparks. These bans are decreed by Fiamma, and her Mages are not allowed to speak for her when it comes to this subject. Sometimes it's because of a grudge, but sometimes it's the product of the person or group just not enjoying the dish.
Ballad and His Followers
This is a general rule of thumb for most people and gods. DO NOT serve anything to those who follow Ballad or Ballad himself. Ballad is a very looked down upon god, and he should not be given nice things until he changes his behavior if it can be avoided. By proxy, Ballad's followers should not be given precious things like the dishes of the other gods if it can be avoided. Of course, this ban will be lifted for the followers if Ballad changes his behavior or said follower leaves him.
Followers of the Old Water God
Fiamma has a lasting grudge against the old water god, so their followers are not allowed to consume her dish whether they leave the following or not.
Anesh
This ban isn't anything against Anesh, but the last twenty times he tried Cinnamon Sparks, he hated it. As such, Fiamma placed a ban on him consuming the dish simply to stop him from continually eating food he doesn't enjoy.
Zombies
Zombies either can't taste or have a very muted sense of taste. As such, it wouldn't serve anyone, for it would just be a waste of a perfectly good dessert. Also, zombies technically don't need to eat, so it'd be rare for one to eat it anyway.
