Those who obtain Ceilon's blessing, usually the sons of the royal family of the kingdom of Macaroon, become powerful, muscular warriors with unbelieveably little training. In addition, they are extremely skilled with light magic from birth, even if they wouldn't be able to use it otherwise. The downside, however, is a curse, simply known as 'Ceilon's Curse', that twists the fates of your parents so that they die on your fifth birthday, no matter the circumstances. While traumatizing a child and their family may seem bad, the chosen one is also afflicted with a downside to their light magic. This downside, heavily comparable to a sickness, painfully eats away at the fleshy body from the finger and toe tips inward and upward, slowly replacing the limbs and organs with solid, functional light. Due to the near-instantanious replacement of what was lost, those afflicted with this might think that this is simply a side effect of using too much light magic. Over time, the burning of the slowly spreading light becomes more and more painful as the afflicted person grows more and more numb. Once the sickness reaches the organs in the torso, the acclicted becomes horribly ill until all organs are consumed. Once it reaches the brain, the afflicted explodes into light and dies. There is no body left to bury.
This is only able to be afflicted to the chosen ones of the god of light and war, Ceilon. It's as much of a symbol of being chosen by the gods as it is of being seen by them as a disgrace.
The chosen ones of Ceilon are chosen at or before birth. Once they're chosen, they're magically 'gifted' Ceilon's 'blessing'. It doesn't show any signs of being there until the first use of light magic.
The afflicted is exceptionally strong, both physically and magically, and can cut down hordes of enemies with ease. As the sickness progresses, they retain and improve these abilities but are slowly eaten alive by light that replaces their limbs and organs.
There's no cure of subdue for Ceilon's curse, but it can be slowed by avoiding using light magic or moving a lot. That being said, their quality and length of life is made much smaller either way. In addition, the medicine of Axorexoshoux, blessed by the god of darkness, appears to stop the symptoms from appearing and the sickness from progressing when using minor bits of light magic, but its effects are not proven.
The light begins at the fingertips and toetips, slowly moving towards the torso. As the light begins to eat away at and replace the organs, the afflicted becomes seriously ill. After the organs in the torso have been fully consumed, the afflicted will bounce back quite quickly. Maybe in a few months to a few years, the brain will be consumed. When the brain has been replaced, the afflicted will explode into light.
The Warriors of Ceilon are the only ones affected by this curse.
There is no way to prevent yourself or your children from potentially getting this sickness.
Ceilon's Curse is generally given to the royal men of Macaroon's royal line, and it makes them the strongest and most relevent warriors in history, especially in wartime.
The negatives of Ceilon's Curse are generally ignored, and the people generally see them as the chosen ones of the gods. As for the family, they usually keep them in their room to rest and hopefully live a longer life. Those afflicted are always in much more pain than they let on.
