Spacers
Written PA 194 / AD 2163
Spacers represent a small but steadily growing percentage of the human population, and are officially classified as individuals that have been medically tested and certified to live for long periods of time at or below Martian gravity. Spacers are generally female (54%), below average height and weight. Because of their makeup, spacers are generally seen as weaklings, nerds, and cowards. This stigma is made worse by the low gravity spacers inhabit, generally making them useless in any physical encounter. They are also seen as schemers and not to be trusted.
These notions, held exclusively by Earth's culture, make the home planet an unsafe place for Spacers, though anti spacer sentiment is shrinking as the groundhog majority on Earth dwindles.
Culture
Major language groups and dialects
Spacers in the early years of exploration exclusively spoke English, and only recently have other languages, such as French and Mandarin found niches in stations around earth.
Shared customary codes and values
Spacers value space (as in room) very highly, but are accustomed to living in cramped quarters. Fresh air is a rare treat to spacers, generally found only in large habitats or planetside.
The spacer culture has also adapted to function without much privacy, or natural sleep patterns.
Major organizations
The oldest exclusively spacer community is Tranquility base, where a full third of the 1.5 billion spacers currently live. Tranquility base is a corporate-run establishment, operating under Canadian law, led by Mayor Michael Springsteen.
Spacers operate the large collection of stations and habitats orbiting earth, working in scientific or tourist industries.
The inhabitants of the recently founded Nebula base on venus are officially considered spacers, though their descendants will not be due to the 93% Venutian gravity.
Armstrong city on Mars is also a large spacer settlement, currently working to para-terraform Valles Marineris.
