Playable Races: Vanara

The Vanara (monkeypeople) have also been imported from 3rd Ed., but considerably expanded. There are now six subraces of Vanara:   Bandar   The Bandar are the most common of the Vanara and could hold any social position from street vendor in the Dragon Empire to monarch in Baghadeesh or the southern jungles of Sholun. They can also be found, though more rarely, on the continents of Wadwala and Chijiplum. They may be any alignment and there is no particular class they prefer, though they make excellent Stalkers or Warrior Scouts. Bandar appear to be 4’-tall upright-walking snow monkeys.   Gidro   Gidro only appear in the southern hemisphere and rarely outside of Wadwala. They have infravision and live in the deep jungle where little light penetrates. It would take something dramatic to compel a Gidro to leave its home village, as they tend to avoid other races, but they can be fierce warriors when threatened. Gidro may be of any alignment and prefer Freelander-Scout classes. Gidro are human-sized with especially long legs and arms, fur, and a tail.   Kivili   The Kivili seem to be Elf-sized intelligent chimpanzees. They have the potential to be as strong as the strongest Human and as intelligent, although their wisdom maxes out at 16. The bulk of the population lives within Larigo, an all-Vanara city hidden in the Emerald Forest, providing the intellectual labour of the community. Some Kivili find co-existence with the brash Ozod unbearable and flee to a Human settlement, where they are often welcomed thanks to their (usually) peaceful nature and reputation for problem-solving.   Ozod   The gorilla-like 7’-tall Ozod perform the manual labour of Larigo and form its army. Although the relationship between the Ozod and the Kivili is supposedly one of equality and mutual advantage, control of the army effectively puts the Ozod generals in charge of Larigo. Some Ozod get frustrated with their rate of advancement at home and set out to serve under the King of Diamonds or else among the Pirates and Mariners of the Chain Islands. Ozod are usually Warrior-classed.   Orongo   Native to the jungles of southern Sholun and the islands of the Ocean Endless, the 5’-tall, orange, flabby Orongo is unsuited to physical combat and prefers to live a quiet, contemplative life. If cornered, it will fight, but usually the only thing that moves an Orongo is the destruction of its home. The Orongo is almost always a Divine or Philosopher.   Aoto   The rarest and smallest of Vanara, Aoto are nocturnal creatures living in the jungles of Chijiplum. While most are inclined to hide from other races, the more curious Aoto will often sneak into villages to snoop and pilfer. A full-grown Aoto is about 3' tall and looks like a fuzzy Goblin with a thick muscular tail. Aotos that take up adventuring usually enter a Stalker class.     ALIGNMENT   Bandar: any   Gidro: any Lawful   Kivili: Neutral Good, Chaotic Good, Chaotic Neutral   Ozod: Lawful Neutral, Lawful Evil, Neutral   Orongo: Neutral, Lawful Neutral, Lawful Good   Aoto: any Chaotic
