Northwest Region: The Hawkeye Nation
The Hawkeye Nation once extended to the south shore of Picmac, but expansion by the Vaquerians and Lizardpeople squeezed out their coastal access, leaving them landlocked. The Hawkeyes maintain an orderly, devout society and judge injustices very harshly. They have been locked in a long war with the Triad of the Lizard as well as the coastal Vaquerians since losing their land. Their dealings with the Vaquerians to their west, however, are fair and cordial, as is their relationship with the Maize Confederacy. The Coyote Association, however, is not trusted, as Coyote bandits have to be chased out of the nation on a regular basis. The Hawkeye lands are dry and barren. Agriculture is limited due to the lack of arable land. Most towns manage enough from their plot of usable land, combined with hunting, to get by, but trade with the Maize Confederacy is essential for food security, especially since the loss of their ocean access. The cliffs of the nation are home to several communities of Aaracokra, who are highly revered by the Hawkeye people and sometimes integrate into the Human community as Shamans.

Structure
The scattered communities of the nation are largely left to manage themselves, usually deferring to an Elder or a Shaman. Larger towns have mayors appointed by the local clergy, who in turn answer to the High Priest of the Sky Eye. The High Priest appoints the nation's king, who acts as Chief of All Courts and Commander of Warriors. Village justice is generally carried out by the entire community, while larger centres are policed by Dread Judges and use formal courts for trials and sentencing.
