North Region: The Vale of Kale
Between the mountains of Mitjotunheim and the north end of the Spinal Mountains is a fertile valley warmed by the surrounding volcanic activity. This land of farms and orchards is protected by a variety of heroes, united by community spirit, and ruled over by a generous paternal Gnomish king. Though peaceful, the inhabitants of the Vale of Kale and the Kingdom of Cabbage that lies therein, are fierce and efficient defenders of their homelands, with Gnomish and Dwarven warriors ready to pop up anywhere at a relative moment’s notice. The Cabbage King also has close allies among the Cloud and Storm Giants of Midjotunheim. Besides providing bounty for its own people, the Vale of Kale is the world’s largest exporter of pickles and one of the largest producers of jewelry and novelties. Because of the steep mountains on either side and a northern sea full of icerbergs in winter and Wotenkin pirates in summer, all trade is either funneled through the Rodite kingdoms at the south mouth of the Vale or moved by Underearth routes.

Structure
Ancient King Klaus delegated much of his power long ago to the Krauter parliament, feeling it wasn't necessary for him to be involved in every decision, and having little interest in fine details. Estate lords are tasked with production quotas and free to keep any surplus. The parliament consists of representatives appointed by estate lords and a royally-appointed board the landlord reps report to. Reps may petition the board on various issues on behalf of the lords, but ultimately must accept the rulings of the board.
The Krauters maintain a standing army, whose general reports directly to the King. Besides acting as chief commander, the king performs a ceremonial role and a diplomatic one, as he loves to lavish attention on visitors to the kingdom, and shower gifts on allies.
