Character Classes: Knights (Family, Warrior Order)

There are three groups of Knights:   The Mounted Warrior (or Chevalier) is an expert at mounted combat and equestrian maneuvering. The Cavalier remains as described in Unearthed Arcana except his apprenticeship is replaced with a Martialist apprenticeship. The Elfin Cavalier is a subtype of Cavalier, implied in the Unearthed Arcana "Cavalier" entry. They differ only in that they are free to use missile weapons and have no restrictions on sex or gender (there are few human cultures in Hubworld with female Cavaliers because the principles of chivalry upon which the class is based are inherently sexist). Mounted Archers may be any sex and come from any background. They are proficient in lighter weapons and armor than Cavaliers and capable of more acrobatic feats. Mounted Archers often serve as the elite cavalry of nomadic societies. Mounted Constables combine the skills of a Detective with those of the Mounted Archer and Cavalier. They wear light or no armor and are less agile than a Mounted Archer. Instead of specialising in swords or bows, they receive bonuses with firearms and bludgeons. They fulfill the functions of Cavaliers and Elite Warriors, serving as law enforcement for communities in the far west and far east where gunpowder is viable.   The Holy Warrior serves a religion or deity and is based on the Paladin, who remains as described in Unearthed Arcana, aside from the matter of apprenticeship. The Dread Judge and Infernal Knight are Lawful Neutral and Lawful Evil versions of the Paladin. To become a Holy Warrior, a disciple must undergo two apprenticeships. All must apprentice as a Martialist. The Paladin must also study as a Purist, the Dread Judge as a Scholar, and the Infernal Knight as a Stealthist.   Caste Warriors are the elite soldiers of specific communities or cultures, each with its own distinct manifestation of battle prowess (details in the Hubworld PHB). Class Warriors are drawn from the nobility or a specific warrior caste of their culture. These include the Samurai (female: Onna-bugeisha) of the Carp and Horse Empires (the Samurai is described in Oriental Adventures), the Kshatriya of the Zoron-speaking peoples, the Homoios of the Hubbish City-States, and the Koa Warriors of the Ocean Endless island kingdoms. Elite Infantry are warriors who have either undergone an apprenticeship or proven themselves in battle in order to be admitted into an elite warrior class. These include the Parrot Warriors of Olmacatincan and the Macau Tribe, the Eagle Warriors of the Cuautl-speaking cultures, the Balmali Jaguar Knights, the Coyote Association’s Dog Soldiers, the Great Bear Clan’s Fox Fighters, and the Wolf Warriors appearing in various Vastlands-bordering tribes across the world. There are also two elite Mercenary organisations that admit exceptional warriors and provide specialised training: the Galloglass Guild headquartered at the estate of Lord Wilson in Fjolnir’s Vale, and the N’Nonmiton, consisting of two factions, one serving the King of Diamonds in western Wadwala, and one operating out of its own independent state south of the Diamond Kingdom.
