The Sun-most Nexus

The Sun-most nexus is a flaming landscape of molten rock and ashen sand. The pillar of magical light at its center flows forth from the maw of a mighty volcano with great rivers of lava running down its face. Here in this burning place one can literally feel the magic flowing from the pillar of energy at its center. The surface of this land is constantly moving as small magical quakes and tremors shift the massive cooled boulders of magma into great rivers now flowing with renewed fury. As one ventures deeper into the land the heat only further intensifies as the wind generated from the pillar of energy whips the radiate heat from the magma into great scorching gales of ash and embers that dry the skin and ignite clothes.

Geography

The land is a cracked unstable ruin of great roaring rivers of lava and crumbling landmasses that give way to deep pits of fire. The land itself is a rocky waste of black and grey volcanic stone and ash, littered with fissures, cracks, and whole ravines of varying sizes and depths glowing bright with hews of orange and red. Despite the great clouds of ash that billow into the endless sky the land is quite bright, brighter in fact than that of The Scorched Dunes in mid day. The winds from the volcano whip and howl through the many caves and rock arch ways within these lands giving faith moaning and wailing echoes with every quite moment that passes by. Toward the center of the landmass is a gargantuan and ancient volcano one as old as the Howllands itself, the volcano is floating a top a vast swirling and restless lake of fire and molten ore that bubbles and churns in a violent tempest to the slightest disturbance to the equilibrium. The volcano itself feeds molten material into the lake through the many large lava streams and lava falls that flow down its face. The face of the volcano is a large assortment of igneous rock and compacted ash giving the volcano a grey and bleak look to it. The crater of the volcano's main vent is rimmed with several large sharp boulders of obsidian that gleam and shimmer in the mirage of heat that radiates from the lava flows. The coast of this land that connects to the Boiling Sea is of crushed, and sometimes, partially melted ash, rock, and obsidian which gives the beaches a dull black color to them and due to the melted nature of the material some spots farther inland but still relatively close to the shoreline have puddles of boiling and churning volcanic mud and ash that can drown and boil living things alive within its invisible depths. The magma that is generated by the mountain does not serve to expand the landmass of the nexus instead the second it hits the water of the boiling sea it opens a small rift between the Material Realm and the Other Realm casting the molten material into the burning abyss that is the upper echelon of that realm as a great endless storm of raining molten rock and ore.

Fauna & Flora

Only a select few species of fungi and coral have managed to take root in the unstable and deadly ground of the nexus. But in another light there is a decent host of magical creatures that call the nexus home. Beginning with the plants of the nexus, a large cylindrical vent shaped fungi spire stained a dark grey by the ash falls and smog of the environment that it lives in called the Pipe Root. The plant itself uses the sulfur and carbon monoxide rich air around it as food and thus spews out more noxious and vile clouds of sickly green smoke that can kill anything that breaths it in. The fungus chooses to grow in the dormant cracks and in the cooled caves and ravines as natural stalactites and stalagmites filling many of these areas with a thick sickly green fog cover, which carry the microscopic spores or seeds of the fungus for the purpose of spreading across the landmass. The second species of fungi called the Dragons Dung is a burnt mushroom that grows on the banks of the many lava rivers within this land. The fungus isn't truly charred but only appears that way as a natural barrier to the extreme climates of its home. The fungus will bleed a hot orange liquid that makes it appear as if it is spewing magma from within itself giving the illusion that it is nothing more than another volatile rock on the shore of the river of basalt. The fungus serves as a cleanser of the lava absorbing and cooling much of the excess material within the molten current so that only the purest of minerals and ores remain within the stream. The mushroom adds to its mass and multiplies through the forming of new limbs by adding and morphing the absorbed material into its biomass and severing its limbs to grow into new and completely identical mushrooms. The third type of plant in the nexus called Demon Grass, is a growing mold that emanates from the many cracks and fissures that have gone dormant within the eons of eruption. It has a black outer coating with a blood red fleshy mass at its core, the mold clings to the walls of the cave, ravine, and fissure walls as to better absorb the fumes from both the Pipe Roots and the very sulfur vents of the volcano. The fungus in a similar fashion to the others takes these fumes and absorbs them into its biomass but unlike the others the Demon Grass uses this added biomass to tunnel through the volcanic soil of the land and find new areas to sprout up but remain connected to the original plant. As the fungus consumes more fumes and produces more biomass its web of roots grows bigger and eventually its basic fungal form evolves into a greater version of itself until it becomes a great stalk cluster of large blades black and red tendrils that reach toward the sky and the ash plume itself. The Creatures of this land range in variety and ferocity but none of them could ever be considered a cowardly species by far. Great beasts and demons of fire and flame from the imps of the upper pits to the great balors of the deeper abyss all have been sighted in the delving of the ravines and caves within this nexus. And it is said that at the heart of the Volcano deep within its depths below the current magma chamber into a vast and ancient former chamber sealed away by whatever beast dug to those depths there lies sleeping the guardian or lord of the Sun-most Nexus a great ancient Red Dragon slumbering atop the greatest treasure trove of ore veins and gems that the Howllands has ever known in its life time a vast wealth from both the Material and Other Realms.
