The Sea of Clouds

The result of a magic quake eons ago The Sea of Clouds is a constant reminder to all in the Howllands of just how real magic is and just how dangerous it can be. The sea itself is a swirling multitude of vaporized water with a massive Deseret of salt beneath it. The sea is only held in this form by the very same magic that vaporized it in the beginning, it is also this magic that is slowly eroding the various mountains and land pieces of the lands around the sea. Now within the seas strange and mysterious mists there are islands and great mountains that submerge and reemerge on an annual cycle.

Geography

The Sea of Clouds is a mysterious and beautiful place that stretches from the coast of The Sun Kissed Hills to the mountains that lead to the Scorched Dunes. Within its delving mists are a chain of islands that float above and within the sea. These islands range from the smallest patches of soil and rocks to whole mountains that were ripped from their resting places by the magical erosion of the sea. The floor of this great sea is a vast and dark waste of salt and rock that has fallen to its depths.

Fauna & Flora

The sea itself once held scores of underwater plant life and fauna but have since been dried up and rendered to nothing more that of stained sand on the floor of the sea. What nature that lies within the mist is solely from the various islands on the sea which are from almost all of the lands bordering the sea. There is rumor however of a race of sky beasts that have claimed the Sea of Clouds as their own. From what the stories have told they are a great bird like beast as big a carriage and as vile as a dragon. They perch on the highest peaks of the mountain islands of the sea and make prey of the birds and even live stock of the surroundings lands. They are a highly intelligent and territorial beast that will instantly attack anything that comes close to its land.

Natural Resources

The salt of the sea is said to be the best tasting in all of the Howllands and the dust from the ancient plants can be used to make a tea that cures even the strongest of sea sickness. The plants of the islands varies from island to island but it is said that all the plant life of the howllands can be collected from the Sea's many islands.
