Fort Kalton

"This is the heart of the Settler. It waits not for the land to give, but pries what it wants from the land's cold fist. This heart will beat forever, as long as a Settler sucks air through his teeth and drinks from the river."   -the Great Offensive A:4

Purpose / Function

With the signing of The Great Offensive, the ancient Briwick Settlers began construction on a base of operations to begin claiming the land. The fort was primarily used for Military purposes, but functioned like any capitol city. Residential, trading, and even agriculture flourished in the cities latter days.

Alterations

As the campaign of ecocide continued, the large wooden fence slowly expanded. Starting from 7 km2, the fort continued to expand until it was rendered defunct. As structures within the fort deteriorated due to their poor construction, they were replaced with more permanent buildings, These buildings remain even today as ruins.

Architecture

During the fort's conception, the buildings were made of organic material; Walls of large, uncut logs cemented together with thick mud. The roofs were woven grass mats, with another mat placed on top during the cold months. Certainly the most memorable imagery of the early days of the fort was the impressive fence that enclosed the town. Large posts, the tops sharpened to a point and the bark carved with the minimalist lattice design of the ancient Briwick. As time wore on, the buildings construction became more refined. Organic material was replaced with stone and metal. The original buildings rotted as time wore on, but the fence was never replaced. Perhaps it was sentimentality, perhaps it was perceived utility, but the fence never changed. Each post was replaced as needed. Very little of the original bark carvings remained, but later they were cut from the posts and preserved using amber.

History

In Resolution of Age of Beasts, the Great Offensive signed Fort Kalton into existence. The Fort was named after Kalton-8, the man who drafted the Great Offensive and was to become the administrator for the fort's operations. The fort was a major success, soon becoming the capital city of Plamir. In Resolution of the Great Offensive, Fort Kalton ceased any military operation after the unsuccessful War of Eye. The Kalton's ruled the city until Groaning 177. Repeated pryoraids from Voi saw the burning of the of over 70% of the city in that year alone. The Kalton's declared the city of Mar to be the new capital, moving themselves and their court there. In Groaning 193 the HOA annexed the land through occupation, but this bothered the Plamirian Settlers not. By Groaning 220, the HOA pulled troops out of the ruined city, leaving it completely abandoned.
