Agent Morgan Ashgrove

Agent Morgan Ashgrove

Morgan Ashgrove is a resourceful gunmage looking for answers to questions she shouldn't be asking. Morgan has crossed paths with something sinister and despite her best efforts she can not get her superiors in The Arcane Tempest to take her concerns seriously. Having set out to prove her worries are worthwhile, Agent Ashgrove crossed paths with destiny in the abandoned necropolis of an ancient power.   Morgan grew up in the Negresti capital of Collibria. Her was a sailor and a member of The Breath of the Empire and was lost at sea when she was very young. Morgan's mother was a researcher at the Imperial Negresti College of Artificers and thus Morgan spent much of her young life on the Academy Wharf where the College grounds are located. Morgan's mother was consumed with her work and so Morgan was often left in the care of tutors or to play and explore the College grounds. Morgan was always very curious and the many researchers and academics at the college proved to be the perfect fuel for her developing mind. However, she hated being treated as a child and when her tutors would refuse to answer her questions to her satisfaction. She would often seek out other artificers or mages to research her unanswered questions which led to her gaining a precocious if sometimes annoying reputation around the College.   It was during this time that Morgan met Render. They became fast friends and spent much of their time together over the years. The image of the small girl exploring the bustling Academy Wharf with the full sized androform construct became a regular fixture in the minds of residents. They got into no small amount of trouble over the years but also pursued their education doggedly and were recognized for their excellence in several areas.   As Morgan moved into adolescence she became very frustrated with her study of magic. She was never able to master some of the more intricate formulae and became despondent for a while at her lack of easy success. This was quickly mollified by the accelerating mastery over her physical and mental training. She reveled in contests of skill and when she couldn't out muscle and opponent she found ways to compromise them psychologically in order to claim victory.   Upon graduating from her childhood tutelage she applied to become an initiate of The Arcane Tempest and was accepted. She became an excellent markswoman and her sharp mind and wit saw her graduate to the rank of Agent at the age of 22. She undertook missions for the Tempest all across the Empire before eventually being dispatched to the Western Wilds to investigate the disappearance of College mages who were aiding in the Liveship timber harvesting in the northern forests of the Wilds.   While carrying out her mission her investigations led her to a cabin deep in the forest away from any settlement or road. Expecting to find bandits, Morgan instead discovered a charnal house of dismembered and decorated bodies. Distracted by the brutality of what she had discovered she was caught unawares when a hooded figure bolted to escape the cabin. She pursued firing on the mysterious figure but the figure conjured magical darkness and was able to escape into the forest. Returning to the cabin, Morgan discovered a hidden staircase that lead to some kind of underground shrine where it appeared dark rituals had been performed. The only clue as to what was going on was a mysterious sigil that had been prominently painted on the shrine wall in blood.   Morgan returned hastily to Collibria to report on her findings. She made her report to her superiors and advocated for returning in force to track down her assailant. Her superiors thanked her for her report and released her to get some rest. For a short time Morgan enjoyed some rest and relaxation in her home city but when she started to inquire what would be done about what she had discovered, she was told to not worry about it and given no further information. The more she pushed the more her superiors pushed back; eventually censuring her and removing her from active service.   Bewildered at her circumstances she eventually made the acquaintance of a young tiefling woman who called herself Secret. Secret told Morgan that there was something going on inside the College and that her employers were interested in finding out what it was. Secret knew that the suspicion and conspiricy inside the College centered around something in the Corvan Custodia: the Research and Development arm of the College. Secret proposed a joining of resources so that she and Morgan could infiltrate the Corvan Custodia and discover what was rotting at the heart of the College.   They carried out their infiltration by cover of night, successfully penetrating the high security area of the Corvan Custodia. Searching the labs and record rooms, Morgan and Secret eventually discovered a laboratory with a glowing ball of golden light held in some kind of arcane contraption. Drawn to the object, Morgan reached a had out and brushed the edges of the luminous coalescence. The light flared and Morgan experienced a jumble of chaotic visions. Most of the vision was nonsensical but a memory of flying high above a magnificent city high in mountains which flew banners marked with the same sigil she discovered under the cabin clarified in her mind. Morgan came to her senses somewhere in the streets of Collibria and fearful that she did not remember how she got there began running. She left the city and lacking any clear direction, headed north to the border states where she hopefully could avoid the attention of the College.   During her flight she reflected on what she remembered of the visions always feeling the desire to head north. She eventually passed through the border states and into the wilderness between the Wyrmwall mountains and the Skadistor range. Following some unknown instinct, Morgan discovered an ancient highway heading west into the Wyrmwall mountains that eventually lead her to the necropolis of Faen Kellek. Recognizing the geography and extrapolating the decaying structures that she saw, Morgan knew she had arrived somewhere that she could finally learn about what had been happening to her ever since her encounter in the Western Wilds.

A resourceful gunmage looking for answers to questions she shouldn't be asking. Morgan has crossed paths with something sinister and despite her best efforts she can not get her superiors in The Arcane Tempest to take her concerns seriously.
