Byrdet
A vine that leaches nutrients from host trees. The young leaves and buds are fermented to make a fizzy, sour drink that causes the “spiritual rebirth” of the drinker. It is often consumed during ceremonies, usually followed by a ritual duel and steam chamber. It is not uncommon for the drinker to vomit during battle or experience diarrhea, as the drink is moderately toxic and causes dizziness, rapid heartbeat, sweating, and gastrointestinal distress. Buds from the vine grown on the blodnut tree are highly prized, as some of the effect of the blodnut is present in the byrdet drink. It is not addictive on its own, but some host trees may transmit addictive compounds to the byrdet. The berries are inedible, but some birds enjoy them.
