Soul
A weak mass of aether that clings onto sentient lifeforms and develops into independent consciousness that possess its own personality.
Manifestation
Manifestation
Whenever a physical life form is created within the universe it takes in some resident aether to create a second consciousness that controls the physical body, later dubbed as the soul. According to a theory posed by scholars at the Arcane Institute, upon birth the soul itself just starts as weak mass of aether that needs a body or object to latch on to or risk dissipating into nothing. As the soul clings to that body for years it would slowly sculpt its own personality to cope with physical experiences. Given that an average soul structure resembles that of a weaker version of a Celestial and Deity, upon losing their physical anchor the soul would ascend into the higher planes of reality to later be collected by the Aetheral beings for judgement on whether or not they can enter their domain depending on their personality and life. If they are not deemed worthy they would be left to wander the wilds of Other-world to roam and risk soul fragmentation or corruption from the collective evils and negative energies that radiate all over the plane.
Classification
The laws of the soul dictate that they usually manifest as a collection of aether given consciousness and become tethered to a physical anchor, with exceptions that manifest in a stronger dose of aether that manages to create their own body made from said energy. Souls can in general be categorized as two types:
- Mortal- The most common type of soul that resides in the bodies of every living creature on the physical or 3rd plane. These souls are a weak collection of aether that requires a physical body in order to grow in power and develop into an individual identity.
- Aetheral Being- Rare beings that were born in larger amounts of aether, so much to the point that they don't require a physical body to maintain their form. Usually upon birth that latch onto a concept to help form a mold to create themselves their own body and even power set based around it.
It is also important to know that the soul can manipulate the consciousness and actions of the individual depending on its spiritual state. Souls exist on a spectrum of sorts that depending on the placement can affect their overall behavior. These being positive, neutral, and negative. Positive means control, souls that lean more towards this end tend to be orderly and logical to the extreme as they rarely display too much emotion. Negative represents chaos, those at this end of the spectrum are fueled by their emotions good or bad (usually bad) and act usually to serve their own best interest. Neutrals though are always in the middle of positive and negative spectrum resulting in them being more grounded in how they think. When souls are born they tend be on the neutral end as that's the most natural state to be in and be born as mortals, though there are cases where a soul can be born as on the negative end when born an environment filled with negative emotions and aether but locations like those are rare in the physical plane. Souls can also slide between each spectrum with the exception of the positive end as it's rare if not impossible for a soul to turn completely positive, explaining why the Aetheral race that's completely positive as far as we now is completely manufactured. Fitting as the natural world is always chaotic and wild with little sense and order.
Note that the spectrum of the soul affects how one thinks or acts, how much it actually does affect them is determined by how large the soul is. Which is why most mortals don't act in the exaggerated manner while Aether beings are ruled by their concept and their artificial bodies are even warped greatly by it. So much so that they are split between three separate races embodying those spectrum positive for the Celestials, negative for the Daemons, and neutral for the Deities.
Trivia
Took some inspiration from mind body dualism theory.
