Grudge Day

"The Grudge, as they call it in the village, is a strange holiday... the usually docile halflings take the day to beat eachother sensless over the issues, arguments and slights they have experienced throughout the previous year. Caught stealing a pie? Cheat on your spouse? Accuse a friend of cheating at cards? Any 'crime' can mean that you will hear a rap on your door on this fateful holiday... and while you can apologize and pay your debt, it is expected that you will fight to defend your reputation in the street!" - A Dwarf merchant, after visiting Hillhive on Grudge Day

History

Started less than 100 years ago (197 CE), Grudge day has become a popular halfling holiday.

Execution

This festival simply involves halfling neighbors and family members airing their grievances with one another. Once within a circle of witnesses, the two halflings are allowed to fight one another to resolve the issue.   The rules are simple:
  • Fights must be completed in the open, with witnesses representing both fighters, as well as non-partial parties
  • Fights are over once one halfling surrenders, loses conciousness, or is struck 4 times
  • No weapons or armor allowed, aside from the use of fists or simple wooden tools and basic clothing

Components and tools

Fists, rolling pins, brooms, or other wooden bludgeoning instruments.

Participants

Halfling communities participate in this holiday, usually in the towm square, amidst a circle of witnesses.

Observance

Takes place between dawn and dusk on the Feast Day of Tse (37th day of the 9th Month, the 329th day of the year).
