Ekleipsi
This rare metal ore (Sometimes called Eclipse Steel) can be mined from tunnels deep beneath the surface world. While it was first discovered by the outcast dwarf clans, those that lost themselves to the darkness, it was best utilized by the Dark Elves who crafted it into items that removed their sensitivity to sunlight.
Properties
Material Characteristics
In it's raw ore state, this metal appears as a light blue, partially transparent clay. However it is as dense and durable as iron.
Once smelted using the secret methods of the Drow it becomes a nearly transparent, glass like metal.
Physical & Chemical Properties
This dense metal acts much like steel, with the major difference that it can be seen through. (when crafted into specific items, it can remove Sunlight Sensitivity from the wearer)
Geology & Geography
Found only within veins of ore deep under the surface of the planet, the veins of ore are often noted by luminous blue mushrooms growing wherever the ore meets air.
Life & Expiration
This type of metal is highly resistant to corrosion, however over time it can oxidize, becoming cloudy or opaque and turning a deep violet.
This process usually takes 50 to 100 years, and can be slowed or prevented by regular cleaning and heating above 200 degrees (but not to the point of being melted).
History & Usage
History
Discovered by the fallen Dwarf clans (now known as Derro or Duergar) around -1500 CE, it was then smithed and perfected by the Drow around -700 CE.
Everyday use
Used by Drow to create goggles or helms that protect the Drow's eyes and skin from the effect of direct sunlight.
Refinement
Ekleipsi Ore must be melted down at 1500 degrees, then while it cools it must be shaped and hammered to turn it into the items for which it is used.
Type
Metal
Odor
Smells faintly of blood or iron
Color
While transparent, the metal does have a dark blue to viloet hue.
Melting / Freezing Point
Melts: 1500 Degrees
Density
In it's raw ore form, it resembles a heavy clay. Similar density once smelted to Iron or steel.
Common State
Typically found in it's raw, blue clay-like ore state.
Really like the idea of natural material that lets the race to overcome their weakness instead of using magic.
Good job!
