"The Desolate Peaks are dangerous and unforgiving mountains, well known by local peoples to harbor many strange hazards. All seasons of the year blizzards and severs storms swirl north from the mountains, making travel through the region nearly impossible." - Heddid Nowera, renowned traveler.

Geography

Rocky, sharp mountainous terrain. The jagged spires of the numerous mountains hide deep and treacherous valleys and caves. Snow and ice are all pervasive, covering everything year round. Tall black stone spikes scrape at the skyline, masked on all but the steepest slopes by snow and thick sheets of ice. Avalanches are common, but as the mountains are very close together these slides are often simply stopped by the next mountain in its path.

Fauna & Flora

Very few creatures live in this unforgiving place. Frostvipers live here, tunneling beneath the snow, hunting anything they can feasibly devour. Aside from the vipers and a few migratory birds or furred vermin, some mythical beasts are rumored to dwell in these mountains, but no proof of this exists. Such rumored beasts include the 'Steaming Wurm' of local folklore, and Frozen birds of immense size.   Plant life is also sparse, restricted to only lichens that grow in mountain caves, and Frost Fern growing in the valleys.

Natural Resources

While the terrain here makes any kind of mining nearly impossible, it is believed the mountains here hold a fortune in metal ores and valuable gems. Survival in this place is nearly impossible, however select Goliath Clans have been known to live in this region for portions of the year, surviving off Frost Fern and lichen until they can gather sufficient resources to move north again out of the mountains. These tribes return to the world carrying mined gems and obsidian stone, claiming to cut it from the frozen land... but some believe this to be a trick.
