Bloodflower Cacti
These small, round succulent cacti are renowned for their medicinal properties. The red flowers that bloom several times a year (based upon rains and other weather conditions) can be crushed into a healing salve, and the flesh of the cactus is often harvested as a source of carbohydrates and water in the desert. The spines also serve well as needles for sutures or stitches.
