Weaponsmith Rank/Title in Hesli | World Anvil

Weaponsmith

The Weaponsmith is one of the specialisations one can achieve in blacksmithing or jewelcrafting. People with this rank have much knowledge about crafting or working with weapons. While their wares might be more expensive than that of the average smith or jewelcrafter, they certainly are of the highest quality.

Qualifications

Gaining the Weaponsmith title differs from one profession to another. Currently, these are the known procedures for the following professions.

Blacksmithing

To become a weaponsmith in the blacksmithing community, one has to have studied under a recognised weaponsmith for a minimum of five years. There are many extra details that they have to learn from a master. Once their mentor deems their student worthy and knowledgeable on the subject, they can sign them up to do a practice exam at a different weaponsmith. This weaponsmith will inspect how the apprentice works, shapes, and polishes the metal. If they too deem the student worthy, the apprentice gets a chance to prove themselves before the board of blacksmiths in their country. Only if they pass the exam of the board, they can rightfully call themselves a weaponsmith.

Jewelcrafting

The jewelcrafting community adheres mostly to the same system as the blacksmiths. A master jewelcrafter has to study for at least 7 years under a weaponsmith jewelcrafter. However, since they have to work closely with blacksmiths, an apprentice has to train and observe with a blacksmithing weaponsmith for an additional three years. In those three years, they learn the basics of blacksmithing that they will need to properly work the metal for their jewelcrafting. Other than that, the same procedure is in place for the jewelcrafters. When the master weaponsmith thinks their student is ready, they sign them up for a practice exam at another weaponsmith jewelcrafter. If they pass this exam, they will perform an exam at the board of jewelcrafters. When the apprentice successfully convinces the board of their skill, they can call themselves weaponsmiths.

Benefits

There are two primary benefit to becoming a weaponsmith. As someone who holds this rank, it is expected of them that they are knowledgeable on the subject and that their wares are of the best quality made with the best materials. With this in mind, weaponsmiths can ask for a steeper price when selling their wares. Furthermore, a weaponsmith often has priority over others when it comes to buying materials. Merchants are aware of the status that is tied to the rank and the profit they can make with their wares. Therefore, they prioritise the weaponsmiths when they are selling quality materials, because the armoursmith will still pay a hefty price for it.
