Werewolves are cursed and corrupted individuals who transform into malevolent, wolf-like creatures that indiscriminately slaughter both people and livestock during the nights of the full moon. Those unfortunate enough to survive an attack from a werewolf may contract the curse themselves. Victims often remain unaware of their condition, experiencing vivid nightmares connected to the harm they've inflicted while in their monstrous form. They also suffer from severe bouts of amnesia, often waking up with torn clothing — or none at all — covered in dried blood, with no memory of their actions the night before.
Individuals who harbored particularly dark hearts before becoming cursed are even more terrifying — they gain the ability to control when and where they transform, viewing the curse as a twisted blessing. These individuals often exhibit subtle signs of their condition, though these are usually noticed far too late.
Werewolves are vulnerable to silver, magic, and magical metals. While several supposed 'remedies' exist to lift the curse, they are just as likely to kill the afflicted person as they are to provide a cure.
According to legend, the first werewolves were beastfolk who deeply offended an ancient deity. Whether or not this tale holds any truth is still unknown.
