Divine Magic
Divine Magic is a sacred form of power, fueled by the prayers and unwavering devotion of its practitioners to deities, nature spirits, cosmic entities, and other divine forces. Those who wield Divine Magic must adhere to a strict code of conduct that aligns with the beliefs and principles of their divine patron. Acting in opposition to this code can lead to severe consequences, where prayers and invocations may go unanswered, leaving the practitioner without the divine aid they seek. The severity of the transgression determines the extent to which their divine power is diminished, if at all.
Practitioners of Divine Magic are masters of restorative spells, capable of healing wounds, curing ailments, and even raising the dead in certain cases. They excel in support and defensive magic, offering blessings, protection, and guidance to their allies. While Divine Magic may not match the raw offensive power of Arcane Magic, it is exceptionally effective against the forces of demonkind and the undead, making it a critical force in battles against these dark entities.
A notable aspect of Divine Magic is its compatibility with physical armor. Practitioners can cast spells regardless of the armor they wear, provided they can vocalize their prayers or incantations. However, if they are unable to speak, they cannot invoke their divine magic, as the power of their voice is essential to channeling their prayers.
Arcane Magic
Arcane Magic, by contrast, is a highly varied and versatile form of magic, with many practitioners specializing in offensive and control spells. The power of Arcane Magic emanates from within the caster’s mind and spirit, manifesting through learned spells and practiced techniques. Arcane practitioners can also cast spells directly from grimoires, though this process is notably slower and typically used in preparation rather than in the heat of battle. A distinguishing trait of all mortal practitioners of Arcane Magic is their golden-colored eyes, a physical manifestation of their magical affinity.
Unlike Divine Magic, Arcane Magic is affected by the constraints of physical armor. Casters need to move freely and perform precise gestures required for their spells, meaning that heavy armor can hinder their ability to cast effectively. However, Arcane Magic does not require vocalization, allowing casters to perform their spells in silence if necessary. This makes them less dependent on their surroundings and more focused on their internal strength and concentration.
