Into the Cavern

General Summary

The goblin formerly known as Samguise, now Agol, lets the group know that the drop to our right is 40ft. and there's a large collection of debris and chewed wood has been gathered, which blocks the normal flow of the river.   Neremyn casts 'Detect Thoughts' to try figuring out what else might be nearby our location. I can sense that there's a creature below us somewhere along the chasm considering it's options between fight or flight.   Tilly suggests that she climb down the cliff to investigate but I express concern that she may be left vulnerable should the creature prove hostile. Instead, Batty dives off the ledge to get a closer look at the situation - I'm not sure why she's disposible but whatever.   I sense that the creatures are moving closer and draw my impressive bow in preparation of possible conflict ahead. Others also draw their weapons and tools while I use my magic to cast Create Pit to remove the cavern wall the creatures are crawling on, a small splash tells me that I got one!   Our druid recognizes a that it's a VEXGIT - a type of gremlin that will dismantle, sabotage, and raise mischief wherever they can. Agol tries to take a shot with his new rifle but the creature seems resistent to damage.   I call out in the darkness, "Micheivous cretens, your home is not here. Begone!"   The other continue to mill around behind me, as though they've never wandered into a cave before. I move ahead and see that there's a few mammal bones strewn around and another cliff ahead. Several of my companions spot another gremlin across the gap - and Tilly moves up nearer to myself. Obviously she knows leadership when it presents itself. She even takes the opportunity to compliment my spellcraft while observing the temporary pit I created.   Bork Borque asks if anybody knows a drow - my mind is straining to find the correlation to this scenario as we are not in the Underdark. Mere seconds after I hear a gunshot and walk over to the ledge to see the gremlin. With the high ground I loose a magical arrow and pierce the creature true. It is felled and collapses into the water, quickly washed away like so much detruit. Tilly joins me, excitedly prepared for battle yet too slow to find a target.   We descend the rubbled slope beside the waterfall and notice a large ball of jelly at the bottom - Rizza tells us it's called a Giant Amoeba. It's a type of ooze-creature with no true anatomy or structure and will absorb you, causing corrosion and eventually death. Rizza assures me that they are vulnerable to conventional weapons so I loose my arrow and strike the oversized biological building block. I also tell my companions that I'll illuminate the lower area soon. Tilly and Freyja take up positions nearby in wait.   As we descend I throw a Sunrod ahead of us to allow everyone to climb with clear, color vision. We immediately notice two other small Amoeba Swarms - irritating little oozes! From above I throw a bottle of Alchemist's Fire at the nearest swarm that illuminates the target for my allies but doing little damage the thing.   The group tries a few tricks to damage the swarms, small amounts of fire or pits to trap them, but nothing seems to work very well. Poor Bork Borque gets swarmed by the little pests, causing little acid burns where they touch his skin.   My friends escape the swarms and I coat the area with flammable grease. Agol swoops past like a mighty dragon and breathes fire down on the swarms, harming them and igniting the grease.   A powerful Thorn Blast from Bork Borque pierces one of the swarms adequetly.   Fire finishes the lives of the tiny creatures and we pause to take a breath.
