Abberrations in the Rain
General Summary
As we head off Odra leaves his mating pile to guesture for us to join them - not in the pile, but in the direction of where the others came from. Tilly tries to make them understand that we have a previous obligation that cannot be ignored. Odra seems to understand and even explains it to the others before heading out.
Briggal is fairly cheery now, becoming more talkative around us. He wants to be a blacksmith and run his own smithy but he's sad because he lost an arm and won't be able to work the forge any more.
The pack heads North/North East as we diverge paths and we continue mainly North East. As we're heading out, Tilly & I notice some very dark clouds and agree that a severe storm is coming in the next day or two. As we travel, we gather supplies to make shelter against the storm and find enough to make lean-to shelter for two small characters. Bork also sees a cave that may serve as a suitable shelter. Samguise rides Batty to scout the cave before we head out.
After scouting, we all trek to the cave to ask the bears if we can stay with them. Samguise sneaks into the cave and casts Speak with Animals to ask if we can cuddle them. He said 'accomodations' but he just meant floor space to sleep and wait out the storm. The mamma bear doesn't like the way Sam smells, but he keeps trying to convince her. Bork tries to help Samguise since they both have great skills with animals, and they make friends with the bears! Tilly & Samguise build a shelter outside the cave for the horses and the two half-orcs and I hunt to feed ourselves and the bears for the day.
As we settle in, Freyja hears something out in the storm and in a flash of lightning we see the outline of an eight-foot-tall, three-legged, three-armed, bear? It's something we haven't seen before, an Otyugh (even if we don't know what it's called). It lashes out at one of our horses and I put myself in it's path, forcing it to choose between it's targets - it chooses me and hits me, hard, with a tentacle that wraps around me.
Nobody else seems to notice me getting grabbed, but thankfully Rissa wakes up and sounds the alarm which finally gets Samguise on his feet. Thankfully, Freyja storms in through the rain and takes some of the attention off of me.
Tilly runs out, seeing me fighting the silhouette of a monster in the rain. I shout that this creature is an asshole and if she tries to run away, it will smack her down! Swinging with my massive hammer, I miss completely and put my uselessness on full display.
Finally, with Tilly blasting Magic Missiles at my side, I manage to connect with the monsters' sponge-like core and landing a crippling blow.
Two more days on the road and Sam sees that the road begins curving South. Roughly eighty feet ahead of us he spots a strange one-legged, one-armed, humanoid swinging violently with a weapon into the air. He shouts at us that he sees something and soars off towards it. He identifies a Fachen attacking some goofy looking lizards floating above it.
Freyja Rahezura sees him loosing arrows, alerts us, and we all begin charging towards the action, nearly winding up with Miles and his cart in the ditch. Tilly makes a nimble jump off the cart and joins me charging towards the mysterious fight. As I continue to run forward, a creepy, hopping creature comes into view through the trees and undergrowth. Tossing a chakram at it, I do my best to distract it while the rest of the party joins me.
Once we all surround the bizarre creature, we begin wailing on it in melee while Samguise rains arrows from above and Tilly launches her reliable Magic Missiles. After Tilly hits it with her magic I finally manage to knock it off it's foot and kill it.
Samguise tells me about some 'super cute' creatures it was attacking. The levitating carbuncles don't seem bothered as he & I try to prod them for a reaction of some kind. The carbuncle nearest to me doesn't like the offering I've provided and hits me with some kind of mental attack that I prove resistant to and exclaim "It's in my mind!" while grinning like a moron. Tilly, however, is not as resilient and succumbs to their manipulations and is subject to the embarassing Suggestion to strip all her clothing off. Not knowing why she was doing this, I joined her and stripped down, too.
Then I, while nude, forage the area with Rissa and lure the carbuncles into following us on the road.
