Rhyn

The river Rhyn originated in the Firgan mountains in the western territory of the Ebirecca woods and flows from there eastward through the Kingdom of Salternia before being joined by two smaller rivers and flowing through a lake into the territory of the Imperium. The first town of import it meets is Briga, the capital of the Barony of Vensia.   The river's source is a great, unnamed, glacier in the Firgan mountain range, at the western edge of Salternia. It begins at an altitude of approximately 2'225 metres and flows through a valley, where it is joined by many smaller tributaries and continues on towards Vensia.   The river has an important role as a water highway in inland trade in Salternia, especially connecting the town of Briga to other cities downstream such as Lorsen as well as bringing goods into the general direction of Salternia's capital Lissingen. Travelling the Rhyn by barge from Briga to Lorsen takes about a week, depending on the vessel, travelling the whole length of the river until it ends in the ocean has never been done, but would take around six weeks approximately.   The Rhyn has a remarkably fierce current, especially in its narrower parts and is not without its dangers. Spring und early summer Floods when the ice in the mountains is melting also provide challenges, and late summer will often bring droughts and shallow waters. Nevertheless, it is also a common source of relaxation for Salternia's smallfolk. who like to raft or swim in its currents on hot summer days.
