Devari Rocks

or Stones of Devara

What is a Devari Rock?

Devari Rocks, which are also commonly known as Stones of Devara, are a remarkably shaped type of rock that can appear in many forms like perfect geometric shapes or with an equally symmetric hole in its middle. Their surface is always impossibly smooth, and they can be found in various wondrous colours.   For a Devara Stone to be formed it takes tens of thousands - if not millions - of years, which makes them incredibly rare and valuable. The existence of these stones has been only known for a couple of hundred years and their properties and uses for even less time.

Where are they found?

Devara Stones are only found in the most ancient of forests. Nowadays, this coincides with the forest in which the druidic groves are situated. To come into possession of a Devari Rock thus proves difficult, as one would have to travese the not so hospitable forest environments of these ancient forests, only to to then having to trespass into the heart of a sacred grove of a druid circle, which is a great offence in any nation in Helvara.   The Devari Stones are indeed formed by being exposed over these extremely long periods of time to their respective environment in of the oldest of Helvaran forest groves. Once they emerge to be found on the surface, the stones have been formed by nature to carry their smooth texture and to haven taken on their curious and unnatural features.   The best chance of finding a Devara stone is between the roots of an ancient oak tree on the Pars of any given spring month or deep in the deepest points of any riverbeds on a clear full moon night in summer. On Pars Estra many circles of druids will hold the Estra Elinàa, an event that also encompasses a great search through forest for Divari rocks among other activities. In many circles, this great celebration also serves as the inition ritual for new circle members and is an important milestone in the druidic year.   The witches of Strisia will hold a great convention on the Fallow Moon in the month of Bracca in the forest of Noricca for a similar purpose.   It is also common for lone Sprifts to try and gain a Devara stone to gift their potential keepers and become their familiar as a reward for this great service.   Thus, due to their location, most of the Devari Rocks remain in the possession of the druidic circles in their respective forests, with the exception of Strisia's witch covens. This fact remains fairly unchallenged even nowadays by any other organizations or the nations the forests are located in.

Properties

The Devara stone has many useful properties and is a valuable material to have in many fields of application, not just in magic and spellwork. It is said that the stones can help in predicting the future, serve as a spellcasting focus or improve the tether to the natural world to make magic more potent.

Known types of Devara Stones

The best known types of Devara Rocks are:
The Ebirec
Ebirecs are shaped triangularly and are usually the colour of a deep mossy green speckled with a copper-like shiny pattern. They are found in the forest of Ebirecca.
The Norec
Norecs are found in the Noricca woods in the Hedgedom of Strisia. They take on the form of horseshoes and are coloured in different blueish colour variations with almost silvery streaks inbetween. The stones from Noricca are also commonly used by witches, as in Strisian tradition witches rank higher than druids in importance.

I do like short articles but I think that this specific one needs few more words. My firs impression during the reeding was that they need millions of years to be created, so I immediately imagined some underground rocks created by huge pressure of world.. but no... they are between roots of trees. I am missing the crutial info about trees and also some more information about this stones. It fascinating because it is unusual to see geometry perfectly shaped in nature but I miss the reason why is it? :D want to know. You are also mentioning use in magi and spell work... how it makes magic more potent what is THAT thing what they do? :D I am leaving with more and more questions :D   The January challenge brings me to your world as I randomly chose your article from world ember category.   If you are also interested into this challenge and struggle with picking the article, here is link to short reading from my world :)   https://www.worldanvil.com/w/world-of-thalas-jaroslavhrabkovsky/a/anarith-material   NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS 2025

Thank you for taking the time to read and comment! :D   This is a great example for the phenomena where it does not even occur to the person writing that something is unclear and then leaves out crucial information for the reader. It never occurred to me that someone might think of huge underground rocks, but now I'm kind of intrigued by this idea!   I am still working out the magic of the world, so right now everything written is in the perspective of myths and half-truths.   But to emphasize that they are further underground and larger would make the stones harder to acquire and maybe justify the high value more. Or even the need to travel to the stone to draw from it (thinking of the places of power in the witcher 3 game lol)   So you have given me much to think about and I'll definetly revisit the article when I have a more clear function for the stones in my story. :D   I wish you a happy reading challenge and will gladly pay your world a visit, too!
