The Belphegor Clan Species in Hellverse | World Anvil

The Belphegor Clan

The Belphegor clan is known by the rest of the blooded for their decadent lives and mastery of manipulating other populations. In reality, the Belphegors are one of the weakest clans, with more vulnerabilities than strengths. Their only redeeming quality is their psychic powers which allow them to turn countless souls into mindless thralls. While they enjoy subjugating other species similar to the Woyera, the Belphegors prefer to do so behind the scenes given a well-prepared commonkin could slay them with ease.   Belphegors are subsequently predisposed to paranoia and often horde knowledge, even from other Belphegors, as a way to keep ahead of the competition. They amass large family libraries which they keep under lock and key, kidnap artists, scientists, and philosophers, and will destroy places of knowledge they cannot control.   Belphegor families are usually led by a matriarch, the oldest mother of the family. Women take priority in succession and are preferred upon birth. Men are expected to be loyal to their mothers above all else. They rarely stay married in other families for long as their wives cannot trust them to be loyal to them over their mothers. They will often produce a few children before divorcing and returning to their mothers' sides.
