Areen
Areen is the mother of Arisys. Not much is known about her early life but by the time Arisys was born she was working as a handmaid to a Greater Demoness, while her husband Arson worked in the mine below the estate and cared for their daughter. She always had a nervous disposition but it got significantly worse over time. After coming to Avaria, she was subjected to new trauma and responded poorly to it, leading to several mental breakdowns. Currently, she lacks a firm grasp on reality and her memory is inconsistent, often forgetting whole periods of her life or even short term encounters. She needs around the clock care from a hired nurse.
Physical Description
Areen is a small lesser demon with a meek disposition. She has fair skin, black hair, and black and red eyes.
Mental characteristics
Areen worked in a greater demon manor for most of her life, being educated in caste rules, etiquette, and household tasks. She can cook, sew, clean, and other things expected of a maid. She never learned to read or write, though she made some effort after coming to Avaria.
Areen was born in the servant quarters of a greater demon manor and spent her childhood doing the more laborious tasks like cleaning stables, emptying chamber pots, and washing clothes. When she was around fifteen, she was chosen by the daughter of the lord of the manor to be her servant, based on her appearance. As a handmaid, Areen was expected to prepare and care for her lady's things, like draw her baths or pick her clothes for the day. After coming to Avaria, Areen went through several miscellaneous jobs such as being a messenger, seamstress, and waitress. None of them lasted very long and after an incident where she was attacked in the lower city she could no longer mentally handle working.
Areen was indoctrinated at an early age to revere and fear greater demons. She was exposed to abuse typical for lesser demon servants before coming to Avaria and left her wary and anxious around others, afraid to upset the wrong people. After the first few years in Avaria, Areen was attacked in the lower city on her way home from work. She was found later by a first officer and taken to a first station. She was seen by doctors and asked questions about the attack but she was unhelpful in piecing together what happened as she had several outbursts and became easily confused. It took the first battalion several days to track down her husband, Arson. After the attack, Areen required heavy levels of care. She would often wake up confused as the where or when she was and have breakdowns when things frustrated her.
While Areen was always an anxious person, she was never considered unintelligent. She understood and excelled at detail oriented tasks and had an excellent memory before the attack.
History
Their relationship before the attack was strong but after the attack, Areen could not contribute to their relationship. Arson loves her dearly but they couldn't maintain a true romantic relationship and he began to see another person who could give him the emotional support he needed.
While they considered themselves husband and wife, they were never legally married in Avaria.
History
Arisys was closer to her father before coming to Avaria because they both worked in the mines together but she still held a great deal of love for her mother, often missing her when they were apart. They became closer when they arrived in Avaria, though even as a girl Arisys knew her mother behaved strangely, even more so after the attack.
After Arson's disappearance, Arisys became the primary caretaker of her mother and had to work constantly to pay for the nurse who looked after Areen. Arisys herself is very awkward around her mother, unsure how to act when Areen has a meltdown, becomes confused, or insists on something that isn't true being real.
