Vuosaari Harbor

Vuosaari is one the districts that did not get directly hit by the Länsisalmi explosion but has been severely affect the by the contamination in the following years. Vuosaari used to be an affluent district with hundreds of thousands of inhabitants. Since the explosion most of the citizens have moved away and there are only some tens of thousands struggling to make ends meet here. The harbor makes Vuosaari still important to the Helsinki as a whole because it is the only large scale harbor in the city. The city is completely dependent on the imported food and other critical supplies which are delivered through the harbor.
The Harbor area is controlled by a megacorporation called DL, but there are also other operators and companies working for them. DL also holds the power over most of Vuosaari and provides almost all of the public services in the district. DL has commenced daily decontamination operations in the harbor area and a number of other areas nearby to prevent the decontamination from spreading to the area.
Most of the people living in the district are living there only temporarily in the hopes of making big profits from the bonuses of working in the hazardous area. Some people also live in Vuosaari because it offers very low cost of housing and city services. Many inhabitants are sick with various symptoms of poisoning or radiation sickness.
