City of Lauttasaari

The inhabitants of the island of Lauttasaari have formed their own government and declared independence from the city of Helsinki. The city has tried to resolve the situation peacefully for many years and has recently demanded the government of Finland to intervene.
Lauttasaari was born out of the idea of freedom from taxes and other governmental control. Since then they have implemented taxes to provide basic public services. The new government has established a checkpoint and toll to the highway going through the island in an attempt to make other people pay for the taxes.
The area is inhabited by rich people and celebrities who are not shy of displaying their high lifestyle. The shoreline is full of huge mansions and big yachts. The main street of Lauttasaari is littered with ostentatious restaurants, clubs and other nightlife.
