Antia

The Drowned God, The Beloved Martyr, The Gentle Wind, Patron of sailors.

Antia is among the most powerful of the Nurin, even though his worship is rather limited to mainly The Ardanti Republics and the Coastal territories of Bredlam. For he the husband of Gynia, the all-mighty primordial of the seas, and she affords him great sway and defers to him on matters of sailors and fishers who enter her domain if they have cleared prober protocol, which is to say; sacrifices. For that is why he gave himself to the ocean, that he could mediate the great divide between the sea and land, that his family and people could survive upon the riches of the sea.

Aspects

The Drowned

The Drowned God is the mediator and patron of the seafaring, those who take the seas know well that by giving sacrifice to Antia and Gynia that he will fight on their behalf to keep the seas calm and ensure a safe voyage. But more than that, he is a god of self-sacrifice, to give oneself to a greater cause, for those you love and for what you believe in.

Consort of the Sea

The consort of the seas is the aspect of Antia who must hold by his new responsibilities, it expresses duty before love, for he is if nothing else a dutiful husband as co-ruler of the seas. For he may be the messenger of all that which dwells on land, he must also embrace his position as a god of the sea, and cannot weigh one above the other, even if his heart tells him so.

Worship

The worship of Antia is done so ritually as an extension of the worship of Gyniabut is often done more fondly by those who dwell on land. Much of his worship revolves around rituals of martyrdom and appreciation for his sacrifice, giving fresh catch back to the sea, giving of the first harvest that he may dine on bread, and for the devoted to ritually drown themselves like their savior.

Myths

They say that in the earliest days, when the settlers found the island cluster they would come to call home, they were beset at all times by great waves and storms as if the waves recoiled in disgust when their ships sailed the oceans, indeed old records show that the people held the funerals of sailors as they left the port so terrible were these times. That was until the a humble and pure-hearted sailor went to his fishing boat during a terrible storm, proclaiming that he would not see another fellow man of the sea die, it is unknown what happened out on the sea, but many swear to have seen him steer directly towards the eye of the storm, and miraculously he returned after eight days and eight nights a great celebration was held to venerate his survival, but proclaimed with somber tone, that he had spoken with the Mother of the ocean, and she had demanded of him a great sacrifice in order save them her wrath, and so he took them to the great cliffs of Andros, and bound great rocks to feet, and asked priest of the old faith to wed him, confused the priest began the writs, and Antia jumped into the roaring waves against the cliff, horrified the people looked down to see him, but found only the bubbles of his drowning screams, but just as they paniced did they see it, the waves calmed the skies cleared, the people had been saved. So it was that Antia was married to Gynia to be forever drowned in our place, to placate her endless wrath, and some say that on calm days, his gasp for air can still be seen breaking the water at the cliffs of Andros.
