A young man with a complicated and tumultuous history, Philippos Kosta is the glue that binds the city of Anadephuros firmly within the Makadelian Empire. Born to parents he barely knew in the western reaches of Eleugria, he spent the first several years of his life within an orphanage before being adopted by the Kosta family, a family of minor nobles from Central Panochlos. When he was six years old, he was enrolled in the Akrogialia Academy of Theanesos, and when he turned eight he was transferred to the Basilikoi Paides Academy in the Capital. At the age of thirteen, he joined the ranks of the Hypaspists, serving under Silas Ortheros as his shield bearer for many years. At 21, he finally became a Hetairos and was sent off to the city of Anadephuros, once again serving under his old mentor Silas, now the Promachos of the Anadephuros Hetairoi. During the Stalemate of Sideron Bridge, he managed to step up during a time of crisis and lead a group of hetairoi to victory, killing or arresting a number of conspirators involved in the incident and disrupting the occupation of the bridge. In response to this, he was promoted to Promachos, making him one of the youngest holders of the title in Makadelos.

At the age of 37, Philippos is one of the youngest holders of the title of Promachos in the empire, a sign of prestige within the ranks of the Hetairoi. Being part of the house of Kosta, even if adopted, he is also technically a Komes, though nowadays that title is more of a ceremonial thing.
