Werrin Keep

Werrin Keep stands as a desolate ruin along the wind-scoured shores of the Cape of Dust, its crumbling stone walls silhouetted against the stark, arid landscape. The once-proud coastal keep, built to oversee and protect the southern coast of Teros Major, now serves only as a hollow shell of its former self. Exposed to the relentless winds and the drifting sands of the cape, the keep’s jagged remnants speak of a violent history and a long-abandoned purpose.   The keep was originally constructed as a lookout post and refuge for sailors and merchants traversing the rough waters of the Strait of Payon. A tall, imposing watchtower once rose above the main fortification, its blazing beacon guiding ships safely along the rocky coastline. Beneath the tower, the keep’s interior was designed to house a modest garrison and storage facilities, ensuring that it could be self-sufficient even in times of isolation.   However, Werrin Keep never saw battle nor invasion. Instead, it was abandoned as the coastline’s importance waned and naval patrols began operating further south. As the years passed, the elements and neglect took their toll. Sand and dust infiltrated every crevice, transforming the keep into a haunting landscape of decaying stone and eroded fortifications.   Yet, Werrin Keep is not completely forgotten. Though it is far from any major settlement or trade route, it has become the haunt of a few intrepid souls. Erisha Fawnskin, a reclusive treasure-hunter and self-styled “Keeper of the Cape.” A hardened woman with a keen eye for valuable artefacts, she claims to have found clues of hidden riches buried somewhere beneath the keep’s ancient foundations. Erisha has dedicated the past few years of her life to excavating the ruins, piecing together fragments of old maps and local legends.   Erisha’s presence has attracted others: opportunists and scavengers drawn by the promise of wealth. Small camps have sprung up around the perimeter of the keep, and at night, the flickering light of campfires can be seen reflecting off the weathered stones. The atmosphere is tense, with those gathered competing for Erisha’s favour or hoping to strike out on their own and uncover the fabled treasure.   But Werrin Keep holds dangers for the unwary. The foundation of the keep is undermined by treacherous sinkholes and unstable tunnels. Shifting sands can collapse entire sections without warning.
