Stonefelt

Stonefelt is a pale-green lichen that clings to rocky cliffs and boulders, known for its practical use in the creation of natural dyes. Its unique ability to thrive in harsh, exposed environments makes it a common sight on stony landscapes across Helerin.

Form and Appearance

Stonefelt appears as a pale-green lichen that spreads across the surface of rocks and cliffs in thin, irregular patches. Its rough, leathery texture allows it to withstand harsh winds and exposure to the elements. The lichen is hardy and slow-growing, often giving rocky surfaces a soft, muted green appearance.

Habitat

This lichen is typically found in rocky, exposed areas, such as the cliffs and boulder-strewn landscapes of Helerin. It thrives in areas where little other plant life can grow, surviving on the moisture that condenses on rocks and from rain. Stonefelt is often found in windswept, elevated locations, where its resilience to the elements gives it a distinct advantage.

Geographic Distribution

Stonefelt is common in the upland regions of Teros Major, particularly in the rocky highlands and cliffs. It is also found in similar environments across other islands of the archipelago, though its presence is most notable in areas with exposed rock faces.

Uses

Stonefelt is harvested for use in creating natural dyes, particularly for textiles. When processed, it produces a distinctive green-blue dye that is used in clothing and decorative fabrics. The lichen is collected by skilled harvesters who scrape it from rocks, ensuring that enough remains to allow the lichen to regenerate over time. Its dye is prized for its soft, earthy tones.
