Skrathis

Skrathis are enormous, aggressive wasp-like creatures found in the arid regions of Helerin, particularly in Mar Miskun and Teros Minor. These fearsome insects are notorious for their territorial nature and deadly venom, making them a constant threat to those who wander too close to their nests.

Physical Appearance

Skrathis grow up to 2 feet in length, with sleek, segmented bodies and vibrant black-and-yellow stripes. Their large, transparent wings allow them to move swiftly, while their stingers are powerful enough to pierce armor.

Habitat

Skrathis are commonly found in arid plains, rocky outcrops, and sparsely forested areas. Their nests are built in trees or rock faces, made from a paper-like substance created by chewing wood fibers. These nests can reach several yards in diameter, housing large swarms.

Behaviour

Highly territorial, Skrathis attack anything that approaches their nests. They hunt in swarms, using their venomous stingers to paralyze prey. The venom causes intense pain and can be fatal in larger doses. During breeding season, Skrathis become even more aggressive, defending their territory fiercely.

Geographic Distribution

Skrathis are primarily found in the arid landscapes of Mar Miskun and Teros Minor, but they also inhabit the drier regions of southern Helerin. They are not present in more temperate or wet environments.

Interaction with People

Skrathis pose a serious danger to travelers and settlements. Their venomous stings have claimed many lives, and their nests are actively avoided by those familiar with the land. Despite their threat, some daring alchemists seek Skrathis venom for its use in potent poisons.
