Morvix

The Morvix is an aggressive and opportunistic scavenger found along the rivers and coasts of Helerin. Known for its bold nature and loud calls, the Morvix is a common sight near fishing boats and riverside towns, scavenging for food. Although often considered a pest, the Morvix plays an essential role in cleaning up waste along the riverbanks and coastlines.

Physical Appearance

The Morvix is a medium-sized bird with sleek grey and white feathers, and a sharp, curved beak designed for tearing into food scraps. It has a streamlined body for quick flights over water, and its webbed feet allow it to land easily on rivers and coastlines. With a wingspan of up to 3 feet, the Morvix is a nimble flyer, capable of swift, sudden dives when it spots food.

Habitat

The Morvix thrives along the rivers and coastal regions of Helerin, particularly in areas where fishing is common. It is often found scavenging along riverbanks, harbors, and beaches, following fishing boats in search of scraps. Morvixes typically nest in colonies near rivers or along the coast, preferring areas with easy access to food.

Behaviour

The Morvix is known for its aggressive scavenging, often stealing food from other birds and fishermen alike. Loud and social, Morvixes gather in noisy flocks, working together to outcompete other scavengers. Their sharp calls are a familiar sound along the rivers and coasts, and their bold behavior makes them a nuisance to many. Despite this, they are crucial to maintaining clean shorelines, as they consume a wide variety of organic waste.

Geographic Distribution

The Morvix is widespread across Helerin, found near rivers, lakes, and coastal areas. It is commonly seen in the rivers of Forbin and Remon, as well as the coasts of Mar Miskun, Teros, and the Seynan Islands. Its adaptability to different environments ensures its presence in both rural and urban settings.

Interaction with People

Morvixes are often viewed as pests due to their noisy presence and habit of stealing food from fishing boats and markets. However, their scavenging helps keep the waterways clean, reducing waste that could otherwise attract vermin. While not typically hunted, efforts are sometimes made to drive them away from food stores and fishing nets.
