Glaren

The Glaren is a small, nimble reptile commonly found across the varied landscapes of Helerin. They are harmless, and play an important role in controlling insect populations. Though inconspicuous, Glarens are well-suited to the diverse climates of the archipelago.

Physical Appearance

Glarens are small, typically measuring between 6 to 10 inches in length.   Their slender, elongated bodies are covered in smooth, slightly textured skin, which varies in colour depending on their environment, often in shades of brown, green, or grey. Some Glarens have patterns that help them blend into their surroundings.   Their sticky, pad-like toes allow them to easily cling to walls, trees, and rocks, making them excellent climbers. Glarens have wide, alert eyes, while their long, thin tails provide balance as they move with agility.

Habitat

Glarens thrive in various environments, from the humid forests of Remon to the dry, rocky outcroppings of Teros Major. They are commonly found in wooded areas, deserts, and even among settlements, where they often cling to walls or bask on stone surfaces. Glarens prefer sunny spots and are particularly abundant in the warmer regions of Mar Miskun, Teros, and Mar Mabon, where they can regularly be seen basking in the sun.

Behaviour

Glarens are agile, quick-moving creatures, constantly darting around to catch insects and small invertebrates. They are diurnal and spend their days hunting and sunbathing, while at night they retreat to hidden crevices. These creatures are solitary and, although they may share space with others, they do not form social groups.   Glarens are skilled climbers, often scaling walls and trees with ease. When threatened, they may detach their tails to distract predators and make their escape.

Geographic Distribution

Glarens are widespread across the archipelago, inhabiting nearly every realm, including the dense forests of Remon, the arid plains of Teros Major, and the rugged mountains of Mar Mabon. They thrive particularly in the warmer, sun-soaked regions of Mar Miskun, Teros, and southern Great Forbin.   Though less common in the cooler areas of Remon and the northern regions of Great Forbin, they still inhabit sheltered, sunny spots. Glarens can also be found on the coastal cliffs and rocky shores of the Seynan Islands.

Interaction with People

Glarens are regarded as beneficial, keeping insect populations in check around homes and farms. Their presence is generally welcomed, and in some regions, they are even seen as symbols of good fortune. They are neither hunted nor feared and live in harmony with people. In some cases, they are kept as pets, serving as both companions and natural pest control.
