Fort Liryn

Fort Liryn stands on the southeast coast of Daros, perched on a low cliff that overlooks the Sea of Fair Winds.   The fort’s position, a short distance from Bezan Mord on the island of Ashris and within sight of the distant port town of Natarr on the Terosian coast, was chosen to serve as a watchpoint over the narrow shipping lanes that connect Forbin’s eastern waters with Teros. Despite its strategic location, the fort is considered a quiet and uneventful posting by many, its role largely limited to monitoring sea traffic and maintaining a small garrison to deter smugglers and pirates.   The structure of Fort Liryn is compact but sturdy, its grey stone walls rising up against the windswept landscape. The fort’s square layout is built around a central courtyard, flanked by two squat towers that provide a commanding view of the coastline and surrounding waters. These towers serve as observation posts, and their signal beacons can be seen from the deck of any ship passing within several miles of the coast. The interior of the fort is simple and functional, housing barracks, an armoury, and a small command centre where Captain Frinnan Josa oversees the daily operations.   Captain Frinnan Josa, the fort’s young and ambitious commander, has found himself frustrated by the isolation of his current posting. A promising officer with dreams of glory and recognition, Josa views Fort Liryn as a dead-end assignment—a place where careers go to wither. Determined to prove his worth, he has been searching for any opportunity to distinguish himself and make a name beyond the quiet coast of Daros. This ambition has led to an increase in patrols and exercises, as well as a heightened state of vigilance among the garrison.   In recent months, however, Captain Josa’s diligence has uncovered more than he bargained for. Reports of unidentified vessels sailing dangerously close to the coast have become more frequent, and several fishing boats have vanished without a trace. The local fisherfolk whisper of ghost ships and strange lights on the water at night, but Josa suspects a more mundane threat—smugglers, or worse, pirates from Teros using the remote coastline as a base of operations.   His suspicions have only deepened since one of his patrol boats discovered an abandoned Terosian shipwreck along the shore, its cargo hold stripped bare and signs of a struggle evident on deck.
