Fort Daxin
Fort Daxin, perched on the shores of Lake Daxin where the Lespa flows into the lake, was once a vital Terosian military post. Its solid stone walls and watchtowers served as a deterrent against incursions from the wilds and safeguarded the timber trade that flowed through the nearby woodlands. Like many other fortifications in the region, Fort Daxin was destroyed during the War of Salvation, left as a shattered ruin following the conflict’s brutal conclusion.
The fort’s once-proud battlements are now a maze of collapsed masonry, while the main gatehouse is little more than a broken archway overrun by ivy and twisted roots. The crumbling remains of its towers cast long shadows over the dense woods surrounding the site. The lakefront, once bustling with Terosian supply boats, has become eerily quiet, with only the occasional ripple disturbing the stagnant waters where the river meets the lake.
Despite its ruinous state, Fort Daxin has not been forgotten. Bandits have made it their stronghold, using its secluded location to raid nearby settlements like Hexash, Tyrinn, and Larronas, all within a day’s journey from the fort. These marauders prey on the struggling towns, harassing the local populace and intercepting timber shipments destined for more prosperous regions. The Peacekeeper forces, stretched thin and preoccupied elsewhere, have been unable to eradicate this threat, and so Fort Daxin has become a thorn in the side of the region.
Local rumours suggest that the bandits occupying the fort are more than just a loose collection of outlaws. Some whisper that a former Terosian officer, embittered by the loss of the war, leads them - a skilled strategist who knows the terrain and the region’s defences better than anyone else. This enigmatic figure, known only as the "Shadow of Daxin," has been able to keep his band well-supplied and organised, striking at weak points along trade routes and then retreating into the fort’s ruined halls before Peacekeepers can respond.
