Fort Arassor

The ruins of Fort Arassor sit on a windswept hill overlooking a vital crossing on the road to Amur Lefra. This once-proud fortress served as a bulwark against incursions from the south, but like many other strongholds in Teros, it was shattered during the War of Salvation. Now, its crumbling walls and fallen towers are a testament to the violence of that time, the broken stone scarred by fire and lined with deep cracks where the earth split beneath the weight of battle.   The fort’s strategic importance came from its position guarding the northern approach to Amur Lefra, the former seat of Terosian power. During the war, Fort Arassor saw fierce fighting as the armies of Forbin sought to break the defenders’ resolve. When the fortress fell, its defenders made a final stand in the central courtyard, where the bodies of both Peacekeepers and Terosians now lie beneath the overgrown remains of the shattered walls. Scorched beams and shattered masonry are all that remain of the central keep, where defenders fought to the last to protect the rear guard’s retreat.   Once a solidly built structure of granite blocks quarried from the nearby hills, the ruins now resemble a skeletal shadow of the fort’s former grandeur. Jagged walls jut skyward like broken teeth, and the charred remains of the barracks and stables are strewn with the detritus of war. The central courtyard is choked with thick, thorny underbrush, and only the faintest outline of the once-broad parade ground can be discerned beneath the wild growth.   Though Fort Arassor is now abandoned, its ruins are far from quiet and the place has a haunted air.   Despite its grim reputation, Fort Arassor holds secrets buried deep beneath the rubble. The Peacekeeper forces had begun tunnelling an extensive network of cellars and storage rooms beneath the main fortification just before the siege. Though many of these collapsed during the attack, some hidden chambers remain intact, their entrances lost among the ruin. It is rumoured that the retreating Terosian defenders sealed a vault deep within these tunnels, hiding a great store of silver and a collection of rare artefacts plundered from conquered lands, to keep them from falling into Forbin hands.   In recent years, a small but growing number of scavengers have braved the dangers of the fort, seeking to uncover its buried treasures. Some have found minor relics—rusted weapons, shattered armour, and a few gold trinkets—but none have yet located the legendary vault.
