Arralvin

Arralvin is a marsh-dwelling vine known for its spiked tendrils and sticky sap, which trap passing creatures in the dense, swampy regions where it grows.   This dangerous plant, often referred to as the “hanging snare,” can be found draping from trees and other structures in the wetlands of Helerin, where its predatory nature makes it feared by locals. Its ability to ensnare small animals and even people has given rise to many tales of travelers lost in the marshes.

Form and Appearance

Arralvin is a long, hanging vine with numerous trailing tendrils that extend like a curtain from the branches of trees or other elevated surfaces. These tendrils are coated in a sticky sap, with small spikes that pierce the skin of any creature that comes into contact with them. The vine has dark green stems, and its tendrils feature tiny buds of white flowers during the blooming season. Once caught, prey is gradually absorbed by the plant for nutrients.

Habitat

Arralvin thrives in marshes and swamps, where the high humidity and standing water provide the perfect environment for its growth. It often grows on tall trees, using their branches as anchor points for its trailing tendrils, allowing it to stretch across large areas of water or muddy ground.

Geographic Distribution

The plant is found in the wetlands of Helerin, particularly in the Festermere swamps of northern Teros Major and similar swampy regions throughout the archipelago. Its presence is a known hazard to those who venture into these dangerous landscapes.

Uses

While the plant itself is considered dangerous, some of the sap from Arralvin’s tendrils can be harvested and used to create strong adhesives. However, the process of extracting this sap is highly risky due to the plant’s lethal nature. Most people avoid Arralvin, respecting its role in the ecosystem as a natural predator.
