The Pursuit of Amulira

Summary

Amulira was a fisherwoman from a village on the northern coast of the Premtirna (Brindorn) Bay, known for the vast amounts of fish she caught. Yinwah was particularly proud of Amulira because she was able to feed so many people in her village. Mavrosk, seeking a way to collect Amulira's soul, asked Zirstur, to send a storm into the bay the next time Amulira was on her fishing boat. Zirstur obliged and sent Hirkan to conjure strong winds and huge waves. Yinwah was furious and when she saw that Amulira had been tossed overboard, turned her into a fish. Amulira swam up the Margonwend and away from the storm.

While Mavrosk was busy claiming the souls of the other fisherman that had drowned in the storm, Yinwah gave Amulira the power to change into any beast she had seen before. Mavrosk pursued her for many years after that, but Amulira was always able to change into a beast and evade death. She lived to be 114 years old and, having seen most of Helemra, she went back to her village and finally met Mavrosk. After such an arduous pursuit, Mavrosk decided to let mortal souls come to him in good time, taking his seat as the Black Judge.
