Oracles of Astor

Hoarders of Knowledge and Fate

The Oracles of Astor, to the few who are aware of their existence, are a group of monks living in an underground fortress under the mountains of eastern Ulnost. They devote themselves to worship of Astor, patron god of secrets and fate. This fortress is a temple, acting as the god's grand library, considered to be one of the largest and oldest collections of knowledge to date.   To serve Astor is to contribute to his collection in secrecy; these monks often travel the world in search of books, scrolls, and stories not yet on the shelves in his collection. His followers offer unique texts to their god in hope that he might grant them visions of the future, showing glimpses of what is fated to come. It is in this way that the Oracles work to divine the 'correct' path Astor wishes for the world, and work to preserve their blessed timeline- often seeking out those who unknowingly work against it.   While the Oracles are known of, nobody has ever laid eyes on their temple, and the aforementioned grand library of hoarded knowledge. Many Ulnosti scholars don't believe it even exists. For a period of time, rising rumours and panic in Staginport led to city guards being posted outside libraries looking for book-thirsty monks. None were seen, and the rumours about followers of Astor faded into gossip. Some explorers comb the forests and mountains of their kingdom looking for this temple, but to no avail.
