Imperial Rangers of Eastwythe

The Imperial Rangers of Eastwythe are a former military unit, created by the esteemed great Emperor in the year 47AU following the impossible task of subjugating the Fey of Eastwythe. For centuries they protected the roads and people in Eastwythe, and acted as the Emperors ears within the region. Following the Emperors death in 397 AU, the Imperial Rangers were all but wiped out by the fey and monsters of Eastwythe who launched surprise attacks all over the region on the unsuspecting citizens and military forces living there. Eye witness accounts from merchants on the border claim the Imperial Rangers did everything they could to save as many people as they could, refusing to abandon their posts. Only a handful of Imperial Rangers are known to have survived.

Service

Any citizen of the Empire could become an Imperial Ranger, but they had to pass a vetting process and survive the harsh training. by 250AU most of the Imperial Rangers came directly from Wythian families living inside the Eastwythian cities that had been established. The Imperial Ranger service cycle included a full six months of duty, followed by a two month break to be with family, before serving another six months of duty etc.
