Druwiel Kynaz (Droo-veal Ky-noz)

Druwiel Kynaz (Imperial Wythian: loosely translated as Grand Prince, lit. "Prince-Companion") is a non-hereditary title of nobility granted to the husband of a Sevnóni Queen, analogous to the Wythian title of Prince Consort. It does not include any territorial landholdings and produces only nominal revenue for the title holder. Traditionally, the subsidiary title accompanying the 'Princedom' is referred to as the First Boyar of the Sovereign.

History

The title was first created in the 8th Century BU by King Władysev II Wrymouth, who bestowed it upon his son-in-law Miecraw of Hranstic when the latter married the Princess Jadzia. The young Princess was confirmed as Sevnónicha's first Queen at the Grand Viste of 766 BU, and at that time it was concluded that the new Queen's husband must maintain his Princely title, rather than assuming the corresponding title of King.

This decision - while deeply unpopular with the traditionalist factions present - was deemed necessary to signify that the spouse of the new monarch lacked the powers (and responsibilities) bestowed upon the Queen by the Grand Viste. Supported by both Queen Jadzia and Miecraw, a precedent for the title's use by the Queen's husband was established that continued uncontested for the next fourteen centuries.
